I told you we should have bought a gun. Shut up. What about if we bring a gas can and just light it on fire? No, we aren't doing that either. They screwed us. You know they totally screwed us. I sighed. Yes, I know. That does not mean we should do something illegal. It's only illegal if you get caught. Everyone gets caught eventually though.
I got up and put on my nicest suit. It was light gray and all my actual friends said it brought out my eyes. It made me feel a little better. Not great, but not so much like a pile of dog crap. I wrapped a smart looking silver tie around my neck and snapped my watch on my wrist. What is the point of all this?
If this is going to be my last day, I might as well go in looking my best. I carefully fixed my hair and stared at the placid smile on my face. Alright. You look fine. Now let's get this over with. I grabbed my stuff from the front hall where I tossed it after throwing on my nice coat.
I waved to the young couple moving in next door with my signature smile. Let's hope they are not as big of losers as the last ones. I got in my car, took a deep breath and made the drive. I was early for once. I saw that spot up at the front open and parked my car with a slight grin.
Once I reached my desk, it was merely a matter of cleaning up. I put all the files on my desk away in the filing room. I emailed everyone with the new department contact information. I emptied my briefcase and put all the unused forms in the pile on my shelf. I think you are overdoing it. You should just sit here and leave the mess for the next person.
No, final impressions are important. Remember I am hoping for a reference in the future. Ah fuck references. Spit in the coffee maker. I rolled my eyes at the idea. I looked at the few items I had on my desk and sighed to myself. Not even enough for a box. That's because the assholes moved you around so much.
"Hey." The boss drew out the word with an apologetic look on her face. She bit her lips as though it was really upsetting her. I didn't know, maybe for some reason it actually was.
"Hey Patty. Guess this is it, huh?" I said with a slightly sad smile. She nodded and looked around uncomfortably.
"This really sucks, Denis. I know how much of a hard worker you are. It isn't fair. Those guys in Human Resources are idiots." She said consolingly. I nodded, just like I figured she wanted me to.
"Can't be helped. Maybe I will get another contract down the road." I allowed without feeling.
"Absolutely. If you do, then you have to come and visit me. Okay?" She and I knew that wasn't very realistic. Even if I got another contract here it probably wouldn't be on the same floor, and I would definitely not have time on breaks to socialize.
"Sure. You bet." I stared around at my empty cubicle uncomfortable with her continued presence.
"Listen, why don't you just take off now. I will fill out your time card to the end of the day so you get paid the whole amount. You don't have to stay." She gulped and wouldn't meet my eyes. I sighed.
"Okay. Yeah, sure. I can do that. Thanks." I got up and threw on my jacket. I picked up my empty briefcase and walked out to the elevators. Shit, you forgot your pen. I turned around and went to go back for it, but stopped dead at the scene in front of me.
My boss was showing a perky young female into my cubicle with a broad smile. My own smile slipped off my face faster than a speeding bullet. You gotta be fucking kidding me. That bitch! Must have mixed up the days. Talk about not letting the door hit you on the way out. I growled under my breath and turned on my heel.
What about our pen? Forget the goddamn pen. But it's my favourite. I don't care. But... I'll buy you a fucking new one! But we don't have a job. SHUT THE FUCK UP. I was breathing heavily as I came off the elevator and made my way across the front entry.
