Chapter 6
Dumbledore was sitting in his office with a grave look upon his face, his once sparkling blue eyes full of sorrow and loss. This made him look his full 113 years. His office was eerily silent. The silver instruments he had scattered around the circular room were no longer emitting puffs of smoke or making abnormal noises, they stayed calm, which was highly unusual. The sound of the fake snores from the previous headmasters and headmistresses was absent, as they sat in their portraits gazing at the current headmaster, not bothering to continue with their sleeping facade. The only sound present in the room was the tune coming from the majestic, red winged bird known as a Phoenix, sitting on his perch in the corner of the room. His tune, although quiet, filled the air with sorrow and remorse. This did nothing to brighten up the old wizards mood, as just a few short hours ago he had been notified of the death, of one of the most lively and charismatic people he had been given the privilege to know. Sirius Black.
Dumbledore was now heading off the St Mungos to inform his colleague and close friend Minerva Mcgonagall. He knew she would take the news horribly, the three true marauders had been some of her most favourite students and she had been majorly sorrowful on that Halloween night all those years ago when she found out that Lily and James Potter had been murdered by Lord Voldemort. Then when she heard about Sirius, and what he had supposedly done to the Potters, Peter Pettigrew and the 12 muggles she had downright refused to believe it.
15 years previously
Dumbledore had just returned from leaving poor little Harry Potter on the the door step of the Dursley's. Who were Lily's sister, Petunia Dursley nee Evans and her husband, Vernon Dursley. He was aware of their hatred towards magic but he has hopes that they will change their ways, if not for him then for their now orphaned nephew.
Minerva was pacing back and forward infront of Dumbledore, her usual slick, tight bun was messy and uncontrollable, tears pouring from her eyes, and her mouth twitching with anger directed to the old wizard who was following her every movement with his now grieving, blue eyes.
"We must go back Albus!" mcgonagall cried. "They are the worst muggles I have ever laid my eyes on! What if Harry grows up to act like them! Or worse, be hated and unwanted by them!"
Dumbledore was not surprised by her reaction, she adores Baby Harry. Every time she visited the Potters cottage in Godrics Hollow, she would let down her strict stance and coo over him about how wonderful he was and how she was absolutely certain that he would make an outstanding quidditch player.
"I can't bare to let that young child be brought up in that type of household. Please Albus! Please just let me take care of Harry. Please I implore you to see reason." The usually strict witch pleaded.
"Minerva I—I have no choice..." he trailed off sighing, slowly shaking his head.
"DON'T GIVE ME THAT EXCUSE ALBUS!" Mcgonagall was now furious. sad and angry tears streamed down her ageing face.
"IF YOU WON'T LET ME TAKE CARE OF HARRY THEN WHY NOT REMUS OR SIRIUS OR—"Dumbledores head snapped up to meet McGonagalls, a raging fire suddenly erupting in his eyes.
"Minerva." The witch stopped her rant at the sound of Dumbledores voice. It was cold and hard. This surprised her enough to get her to listen to what he had to tell her.
"Black..." he spoke the word out with so much venom that it made mcgonagalls heart beat unsteadily and unnaturally quick. "...he was James and Lily's secret keeper."
McGonagalls face whitened. Her fingers started to tremble and shake. She slowly sat down infront of Dumbledores desk, her eyes willing him to continue.
