The Day

I got called into the office at the beginning of tutor time. They told me the news no person ever wants to hear in their life. My mum and sister had been in a fire. After that, I don't really know what came next, it was all a bit of a blur. Some woman came to see me, but I have no recollection of the conversation we had because I was in shock. All I can remember from the hour or so after they told me, was going to the hospital where they both were. The doctor told me that they were in bad conditions and that they would be in hospital for a long time. What he didn't tell me was that Lily was already dead.

I sat in the waiting room for about 3 hours, but it felt like 3 minutes. I didn't even notice the time go by. All I could think about was the argument that my sister and I had the last time I spoke to her. I didn't even tell her I loved her when I left the house in the morning. That is the one thing I regret the most.

I could have never prepared myself for what happened next.
