I could have never prepared myself for what happened next.
The doctor walked in with a look of despair slapped across his face. He looked up at me with the most terrifying eyes. They weren't scary as such, but they wore the scars of someone who had witnessed death. Then the truth hit me. "I'm sorry," he said when he saw the realisation strike my face. I fell to the floor and sobbed. "This can't happen!" I screamed. "They can't be dead it's impossible!" But it wasn't. They were dead.
I kept screaming like this until I finally looked up and through my tear filled eyes I saw Hayden standing there. He walked cautiously toward me and knelt down by my side. He had red cheeks and wet eyelashes, which implies that he'd been crying. He pulled me in close to him so that our bodies were as one and I cried. I cried for so long. I didn't stop until Hayden turned to me and said, "Common lets get you home."
"But I d..don't have a home, i.. it burned down in the f..f..fire." I said through sobs.
"You do now." I followed his gaze to the doorway where his parents stood side by side with one arm around one another and the other held out to us. Hayden helped me to my feet and we embraced in a warm, heartfelt hug.
