I sit on the bench with the words playing through my head. No one wants to adopt a ginger. No one wants to adopt a ginger. No one wants to adopt a ginger.
I reach into my pocket for my charm when a voice snaps me back into reality. 'Hello.' It says. I look up to see a short, thin woman with long wavy blonde hair, resting over her shoulders and reaching down to her waist , towering over me, smiling. I nod my head hoping she knows I'm trying to say hello. 'What's your name?' She asks me. 'I don't have one.' I say. 'I think my name is Isabelle but people just call me Not.' I say.
'Ok dear.' She says processing the information 'Do you have any siblings?'
'Yes.' I say pointing towards Ina and Luna , who are speaking to a tall ,dark haired man with friendly blue eyes and a moustached beard surrounding his smile , that could warm the hearts of people made up of all bitter. He's stood next to a blonde girl who looks about 12 or 13.
'Oh , that's my husband that they're standing with and the girl next to him is my daughter, what a coincidence!' She exclaims , laughing. I smile. 'Come over and meet him!' She says gesturing me to follow her.
'Hi Annie!' The man says.
'Pete! I've just been talking to this girl her,' she says pointing at me. I smile and do a small wave. 'And it turns out those two girls you're talking to are her sisters!'
The mans eyes light up , 'Wow!' He says 'What a coincidence!'
'Daddy!' I hear a voice say. I look over Luna's shoulder and realise a small boy that looks no older than 5 and 2 babies in a twin stroller. Sometimes I forget how tall my sisters are. 'Shhhhh! You're waking Lily and Jack!'
'Oops.' Pete says clasping his hand over his mouth. I look down at the babies when a cry escapes one of their lips. 'It's ok Dad I got her.' The girl, which I forgot was there due to her silence says. 'Thank you, Willow.' Annie says.
'How old are you and what's your name?' The 5 year old says. I'm good with small children. Here's my chance to show I'm not just some moody teenager.
'I don't know my name and I'm 16. What's your name?' I say in a kind voice.
'My name is Harry!' He exclaims then realised what I've said.
'You don't know your name? Are you a chair?' He asks innocently.
'No.' I say giggling 'Are you a chair?'
'Noooo!' He says laughing 'I'm not a chair!' He then pauses. 'What do I call you?' He asks .
'Just call me Not.' I say.
'Ok.' He says then points at Luna and Ina and demands their names in a friendly way.
'I'm Ina.' Ina says.
'I'm Luna.' Luna says.
'We're twins!' They say in unison.
'Ok!' He says.
We chat for the rest of the event and then we say goodbye. Then I think. I wonder if we will be leaving here tomorrow?
