There came a heartbeat
And when everything seemed lost, there came a heartbeat.
The stones rattled under wheels my moving car, the sound became more silent by the minute until it had finally stopped . I arrived at my destination, I looked out of my window viewing the beautiful stone house nestled in between the broad mountain pines. I stepped outside closing the door behind me, admiring the view of the mountainous area seen off in the distance. I take inhaled a lung full of crisp air, Marc came up beside me with a spring in his step and wrapped his arm around me. We walked up to the the large wooden door and knocked firmly, after a few seconds the door swung open.
"Good afternoon Mr and Mrs Jefferson I presume you are here to pick up the keys" The Real Estate agent said merrily.
I walked off whilst my husband talked with the agent, Justin was a good agent he sold us this house for a very good price. I walked around the front yard rubbing my pregnant stomach admiring the lush terrain surrounding our new property. I turned around and walked over to my waiting partner standing by the door keys in hand, We opened the door and stepped in hearing nothing but our footsteps.
I woke up in my bed, stretching out my sore limbs, I looked to my right and saw Marc deep in sleep. I sat and turned off of bed heading down the corridor towards the kitchen. I reached the kitchen but wondered why a few things were on the ground and misplaced? 'We probably moved things last night and didn't realize' I thought.
I hobbled around the kitchen and out of the corner of my eye I was one of the counters was out of place, hiding something maybe. I called to my husband. He groggily walked out of the corridor and came and rapped him arms around me.
"Morning." He yawned
"Morning, does this look moved to you?" I asked
"We must of moved it last night, things move, it's an old house."
"Help me move it." I told him
"Allll right. "
Marc pushed the counter over to the side with little ease. It was black as night down there but the glow from the kitchen made it easier to see.
It was a stairwell.
We looked at each other, Marc reached out into the dark abyss looking for a switch of some kind. Finally he hit a switch and I grabbed my mobile as a extra light. I journeyed down the old wood staircase until we reached solid ground. There was a musky smell circulating the whole of the room, but was also tinged by another smell I was unfamiliar with. I turned to see the contents of the room, I knew what the smell was now.
It was the smell of death.
Two bodies laid face up eyes glued open, stab wounds inflicted into into both of their chests, blood soaked through their clothes, faces severely broken.
I screamed.
My husband turned to me, I could only point. He turned and saw the two murdered bodies lying on the ground. My husband grabbed the phone out of my hand and called the police.
I couldn't take my eyes off of them, there brutally beaten bodies, the holes piercing the chests, shirts drenched with blood and that horrendous smell.
Then everything went black.
"Hello?, Hello?!" Marc yelled into the phone. "Damn, Phone lines are down"
I used my phone light to find the stairs I found the stairs. I looked up those damned wooden steps and saw a large shadow standing directly looking down at me, slowly tiptoeing down.
"Marc" I said still eyeing the figure.
Marc turns to meet this shadow, but shadow was holding something, what was it?
A knife.
We slowly moved backwards until we reached the wall. Backs pressing against the cold concrete. When the light turns back on. We were face to face to the psycho. Huh? It was Justin. What was he doing here? And with a knife too?
"Justin what are you doing?" I cautiously asked.
"What does it look like? I am going to kill you of course" He stated with an evil smirk.
"Why would you do that?!"
"It's just a little fun I guess, being the real estate agent assigned for this property helps, having access to security details and after you die I would just get more and more money after selling it each time." Justin said in a emotionless voice.
Justin lunges towards me knife in hand aiming for my torso, the knife breaks flesh and goes into my belly, piercing my my insides. I dropped onto the ground clutching my stomach, heavily breathing is the baby okay? Will we live?! Banging could be heard from upstairs, suddenly a crash came then rushed footsteps.
I blacked out.
I went in and out of consciousness, I saw the top of a roof, a hospital maybe?
"We need an emergency c-section prep the operating room stat!" Ordered one of the nurses. I got wheeled into the operating room and had a anesthesia mask placed on my face.
They cut open my belly searching to retrieve to infant. They finally retrieved her lifting her up.
But she wasn't breathing.
They performed cpr on her tiny little frame, clearing her nose doing everything and anything they could.
It had been five minutes since she had been delivered, and when everything seemed lost, there came a heartbeat.Hello! This story above was written by my friend Jamiejpts . Go check her out, give her a follow.
