Standing in a dark corridor, you saw a man staring at the painting. He stood still, both hands at his back, he was tall, wearing a black suit, same as the color of his curly hair. You were calling him but your voice wasn't clear, it was like you were speaking under the water. You called him again and this time he finally heard you. The man started to turn around to look at you but as he turns he started to fade. This view breaks your heart, you don't want him to go.

"Don't go!" you scream trying to hold him.

"This will never be a goodbye." he softly said as you felt his cold comforting hand against your cheeks.

"No, don't go." you cried then he vanished.

You've been dreaming about him and in the end, he will just vanish like a ghost. Leaving you in pain and in tears.

"How many times should I tell you to stop reading horror stories." your friend slash publisher, Josh scolded you "Now you are not getting enough sleep and you are even dreaming about ghosts."

"I'm just going to say yes so you will stop scolding me," you said as you drink your coffee.

"I know you are doing this to get ideas for your book but.." Josh's voice was full of frustration.

"I told you, it keeps me up and productive. I mean look at the painting I made." you said pointing at the Gothic painting you just finished.

"It's dark, depressing and scary!"

"I'm going for dramatic and lonely," you stated.

"Look, you don't need to go to the dark side to finish your book," he said calmly.

"I'm not going to the dark side." you couldn't help but laugh "trust me, after this book, I'll make sure to have Romcom, Disney, and an MCU movie marathon to go back to the light! I'm just following my instinct and this is what my instinct told me."

"You are having nightmares!!" He pointed out.

You know you can't win over him, once Josh made up his mind it will be hard to change it. That is why you didn't tell him that you are going out of town and will go ghost hunting.

"Hi, if I want to be scared, ghost hunting where should I go?" you asked your waiter.

"What? Are you serious?" he asked back, looking at you in disbelief.

"Yes, I am serious." you smiled at him.

"You can try the Allerdale Hall. They said that place is hunted and for hundreds of years no one dares to buy that house and whoever tries to buy it dies in a gruesome death." he told you.

"That sounds amazing." you plainly respond.

"Well that place is crazy, the mansion is built on top of soil that produced red clay that adds creepiness to the place." the waiter said with a wavering sounds.

"What's the name of the place again?"

"Allerdale Hall."

"Got it, is there a library here?"

"Yes, just around the corner."

After you were done with your lunch you went to the library and gather more information about Allerdale Hall. You got some information and found pretty dark things about the place then there was a thud sound. You almost jump on your feet, putting a hand on your chest you can feel your heart beating fast. Then looking where the sounds came from you saw a book on the ground. Picking it up, the cover is old and you can tell that it's been on the bookshelf for so many years because of the dust.

"Crimson Peak." you read.

Caressing the cover, you felt that you need to read it, to have it. The librarian was shocked when she saw you with the book.

"Where did you found this?" she asked.

"I.. Well it is more like it found me." you answered.

There was hesitation in the librarian's eyes but she didn't say anything "Please, don't go to Allerdale Hall if you want to live. So many people have tried to go to that place and whoever came out of that place is cursed and died in a gruesome death." the librarian warned you.

"I'm just an author who is looking for an inspiration for my novel." you answered.

"Just like her." she pointed at the author's name on the book.

"I'll take note of that," you said but she doesn't look convinced.

"Writers are always the curious ones. I'm just warning you."

"Thanks."

Getting the books, you left and started to walk around the rural area. Following your map, you finally made it. Allerdale Hall is in front of you with its crimson field. Walking a bit closer, you felt like an invisible force was pulling you close but the gate was closed. Getting to your senses, you stepped back then you saw movements from one of the window. There was a figure but vanished immediately. Trying to go close, the gate stopped you once again. Closing your eyes tight, you took a deep breath.

"Come on, it is all in your head." then opening your eyes, it was just the house nothing more. So you decided to go back to your inn and start reading the book you borrowed.
