???: I'm sorry Mr. (L/n), but we can not prescribe anything stronger.
Dad: Why not? The medication we got last time only seems to stall it for a while. Dr. Kikkawa tell me why we can't upgrade.
The doctor let out a sigh before reaching into his pocket to pull on some glasses. The lens showing more of his dark eyes framed by greying black hair.
Dr. Kikkawa: According to the results we got back, the medication is doing as it is supposed to until we can determine whether or not your wife is getting better-
Dad: But she's not getting better!
Dr. Kikkawa: Mr. (L/n) we do not even know why this is happening to your wife and you want to put her on strong medication that could have severe side effects? Look...
The doctor pulled the glasses off his face and looked your Dad in the eye.
Dr. Kikkawa: I know what it is like to try and cling onto something that is slowly slipping through your fingers. Your wife is incredibly strong and with the medication, she is doing relatively well compared to a few months ago.
Your Dad let out a deep sigh and looked through the glass pane of the door at your Mom. She was glancing around the room at various objects with a small smile on her face.
Dr. Kikkawa: The only speculation I can give you at the moment is your wife appears to have a vicious case of Alzheimer's' disease, and despite her being young, it's progressing faster than we've seen. The medication we've prescribed is for Alzheimer's and seems to be doing the trick for the moment.
Dad: Doc... what can I do? I'm her husband, I'm supposed to protect her and make everything better and yet I feel so fucking powerless... I don't even know how I'm supposed to tell our son-
Dr. Kikkawa: Son? You never mentioned a son before.
Dad: I already know what you're gonna ask and no he isn't suffering from any symptoms. He's healthy as can be, he's going to school, making friends, hell I even think he's got his eyes on a girl he likes.
Your Dad looked out the window of the office with a sad smile, watching the snow fall lightly toward the ground. He gripped his pants rather tightly as he ran through scenarios in his head. Dr. Kikkawa watched your Dad with a frown on his tired face.
Dr. Kikkawa: Look... I know I'm asking a lot of you two at the moment, but I can not legally prescribe you the stronger drug unless her condition turns critical. The only thing I can recommend is that when you both get home, spend as much time with your wife as possible and generate memories that will last a long time for her. Just try to make the best of it and come back in a few weeks, we'll work on it from there.
You Dad gave a solemn nod before standing up and offering his hand to the doctor who gave it a firm shake. He turned away from the doctor and opened the office door, letting his wife know that they were done. Her eyes fell on him and her smile grew. She rose out of the seat and walked over to join him. Your mom interlocked her fingers with your Dad's and the two began walking out of the building and onto the snowy sidewalk.
Mom: What did the doctor say?
Dad: ...
Mom: Honey?
Your Dad shook out of the trance he seemed to be in and looked to his wife.
Dad: H-Huh? Sorry I was daydreaming a bit.
Mom: I asked about what the doctor said.
Dad: He said... he said that...
What does he say? What could he say? He could tell her the truth and turn the angelic smile on her face into a frown or he could lie and let the guilt eat away at his already aching heart. However, the smile on his wife's face nearly brought the man to tears at how positive she was despite this all.
Dad: He said that we just need to keep taking the medicine and we should be good! We'll have to go back in a few weeks though.
Mom: That's ok. It smells kinda weird in there but I know Dr. Kikkawa will be able to help me out.
Dad: Yeah...
The next few minutes were quiet. The occasional car driving past or bystanders walking the opposite way down the sidewalk being the only things conjuring noise as the couple walked home.
Mom: I wonder how he's doing.
Dad: Who?
Mom: Our son. You know on his little date.
She chuckled lightly with a mischevious smirk. The sight managed to bring a smile to your Dad's face as well.
Dad: Ah he needs to hurry up and get a girlfriend already. That way I can spend more time alone with you.
Your Dad joked as he pressed a cold kiss to your Mom's cheek.
Mom: the only woman he needs right now is his mother. If any girls want to take him away they have to answer to me first!
Dad: Wait... he's on a date?
Mom: I can sense it using my Momly powers. My little boy is growing up.
Dad: He'll always be our little boy no matter how old he gets. I wonder if he's out and about with that angry girl he was with. I know he invited her to dinner the last night.
Mom: I'm sure the girl is nice, but not nice enough.
Your Dad chuckled as the two kept walking toward their home. Your mom let out a dreamy sigh and looked around at the flurries.
Mom: I never liked the snow, but you always seemed to find a way to make it happy.
Dad: Because snow can be fun if you make it! That's why I always invited you out when it was snowing.
Mom: Just like our little boy now.
Dad: Hehe yeah...
Mom: Our little Alex is growing up.
Your Dad stopped abruptly pulling your Mom to a stop as well. Your Dad looked confused at your Mom but somewhere in the back of his eyes, there was a slight trace of fear.
Dad: Dear...
Mom: What's wrong?
Dad: My name is Alex.
Your Mom's eyes widened slightly before she lightly tapped herself on the head.
Mom: Ooops silly me. Our little... (Y/n) is growing up!
Your Dad's expression was unreadable, but his eyes held a look of pain as he watched his wife take a few moments to remember that simple thing.
Mom: Now come on it's really cold!
She whined as she tugged your father along. Your father was her husband. And he was going to protect her no matter what. He swore this one more time to himself as the two of them entered the building.
A/n: Hey folks I hope you enjoyed and if you did please leave a comment telling me how I did! That's all and I'll see you in the next update!
