Can't They Let Us Be?

Every day
Every night
I see it slipping away
Even when I have every right

To hold it in my hands
And keep it close to me
My heart, when it lands
Can't they just let it be?

They call me girl
She instead of he
Try to dress me up with a pearl
Can't they just let it be?

I'm a boy
Maybe not by birth
But I'm more than just a toy
For this hate-filled Earth.

They bash us
They take us
That break us
They kill us
Can't they let us be?

If they had a shred of decency
Maybe they could see
That my gender doesn't reflect my body
Can't they let me be?

But in the end
What can I do?
I'm one to just blend
But then-I see all of you

Standing there hand in hand
Standing tall and bright
You're holding out your hand
How are you so bright?

I take it
And I'm flying free
Standing together seems fit
We'll make them leave us be.
