Sirens are known to sing. They sing what you want most and lure you to your death. You become one with the sea as water fills your lungs and you drift to the bottom of the ocean, another victim.
What is less known, these creatures are just like humans. The only difference is that they reside in the water.
Hasn't a human promised you everything? Hasn't a human lured you to their bubble? Hasn't a human dragged you into the dark depths where you can't get back out? Odds are, a human has. Want drugs? Come to my place and you'll have a sniffing addiction that will require rehab to get out of and is still a challenge to this day.
"They're sirens in disguise," you say. But are they really? Or are sirens just humans in disguise? Humanity is a little known opinion. Always with a different definition and only partly there when the time is right.
Rage. Regret. Desperation. Depression. Fear. Where does humanity go? You stab your cheater significant other ten times in the back so they feel exactly what you felt on the inside, is that humane? Is that a human thing or a siren thing?
Admit it, the siren screaming to be set free is just a human trapped in the depth with no way out. You caught her in chains. You put her in a box of glass and invited spectators to take a peek. You gain profit from her. You exploit her and her inability to get away. Where's your humanity there? Does it suddenly disappear when someone is dehumanized? Honestly, the siren is planning an escape. When you turn your back on her for just a second, she'll take a scale she ripped from her tail and stab you with it. She'll drag you in before plunging the scale into you more times that you can count, then again, who's counting? Not you.
So the siren hops out of her bloody cage. Lucky her, you were always lacking in humanity. You let her watch the sea every day while she was trapped in a glass cage. She flops her way to the sea. Only, it's too long without water. She can feel herself drying up. Before her final inch she curses you and all like you.
But, that's a human trait. Does she have humanity?
