                        ✻ p r o l o g u e ;

I could feel a pair of eyes on me. They were scorching onto my back. I had to act as if I didn't feel it. I had to run. If I ran would it follow me? Most importantly, was it going to hurt me? I didn't know what to do, so I walked as calmly and as briskly as I could towards a café. Any place with people in it would be fine.

My boots clacked against the concrete, a few more meters to go. Just a few more meters till safety.

My senses were boosted high, and at every sound I heard, my head would swing around, expecting some person in a dark cloak, and strips of shadows leaking through the clothing as it roamed towards me. Hey, don't blame me for getting petrified of The Lord Of The Rings.

I walked through the cold lonely streets, only a couple dim lit lamp posts gave me a sense of comfort, but it wasn't enough. Not nearly enough. My heartbeat drummed against my temples, making me feel a bit light headed. My feet had already become numb with cold, and my knees would probably give out at any second, but not here. Not alone in these dark streets where only me and those damn pair of eyes were.

Muttering a curse beneath my breath I made a sharp turn, seeing the café I had been looking for allowed a shaky breath to escape my lips. Picking up my pace, I ran for my safe haven.

The bell rang when I pushed open the door. The chilling feeling down my spine was gone, but the pair of eyes was still staring, watching from the shadows. I walked up to the counter and ordered a drink half-heartedly. Anything to escape. Anything.

I sat down onto a couch in the back of the coffee store and flipped through a magazine. Was it still watching me? Please let it be gone.

I picked up my phone and texted Maddie frantically.

                me: there's something following me
                7:00PM

                                Maddie: Where are you?
                                7:00PM

                me: cozy corner, the café
                7:00PM

                                Maddie: I'll be right there.
                                7:01PM

                me: okay
                7:01PM

I set my phone down and continued to flip through the magazine, pausing briefly to read a few articles. The feeling of being watched would not go away.

Everytime the door made a noise, or the bell rang, I'd look up. But no Maddie came. I tapped my fingers nervously on my styrafoam cup of latte while nibbling on my lower lip. There were hardly any customers in the café at this time. The barista was looking bored, and the feeling wouldn't go away.

Minutes later, she pushed through the door, her hair a mess.

"Hey." I mumbled, waving at her cautiously.

I saw a shadow at the corner of my eye but decided to dismiss it as a play on my tired eyes. When Maddie approached me, finally, I grabbed her and made her sit down beside me.

"I'm scared." I muttered, my hands were shaking uncontrollably. I just wanted to go home and go on tumblr.

Maddie bit her lip worriedly. "It'll be fine, let's get you home. Do you wanna stay over?"

"Yeah." I said. And then we left the café.
