I woke up again, my back was aching and I felt searing pain of my face. What the hell.
The ground, or surface, under my back was uneven, uncomfortable. I was also freezing cold. I had no idea what had happened, all I remembered was Tristian waking me up.. And.. That pair of eyes.
I shivered, and managed to sit up after a few tries. What I saw surprised me. Aiden's house, or what remained of it, was burnt down. Into little wooden splinters and ash. I expected a body beside me, I thought Tristian would be next to me, unconscious, like I had been. But I was alone. Unbearably alone.
And then the tears fell, the trickled down my cheeks rapidly. I bawled, my heart beating wildly in my chest. I didn't understand what was happening.
Those eyes.
Last night was freaky, and for some reason, I was sure that there was more to come.
I didn't know how much time passed, but Aiden showed up. His red pickup truck halted at his driveway, which was covered in soot, and he clambered out. I was too far away to see his expression, my eyesight was too blurry with tears anyways.
Then, Aiden saw me, and in a flash he was scooping me up into his arms and rocking me back and forth, muttering, "It's okay, it's okay."
I was howling by now. But questions and accusations were still filling my mind.
Where was Tristian? Why did those eyes not have a body? How did the house burn down? How come I didn't burn with it?
"Lena. You're going to calmly tell me what happened, okay?" Aiden asked me patiently, his brown eyes searching my face worriedly.
"Okay." I spluttered, wiping at my cheeks frantically. I started hicupping, you know, when you're crying and you end up gasping for air? I took a few deep breaths before actually starting to talk. "I fell asleep, and then Tristian woke me up." I began, "he screamed at me to leave."
"Yeah, and?" Aiden pressed on, his eyebrows knitted together worriedly.
"And then I saw.. these... these eyes." I shut my eyes tight, trying to block out the mental image that had been pressed into my mind permanately. "They didn't have a body."
"I see.. What happened next?" Aiden asked, his arms were squeezing me tightly as he held me, I could tell he was nervous... Or afraid.
"I woke up.. to see that your house was burnt down." I finished, and opened my eyes and was immediately blinded temporarily by the sunshine. "God.. I'm so sorry."
"It's none of your fault." Aiden reassured me, giving my arm another quick squeeze before he let go completely.
"But... Last night at the restaurant, Tristian said I was in this, this situation when it began."
Aiden looked at me with shock in his eyes. I could see a hint of fright behind those conflicted emotions as well.
"When what began?" I asked, grabbing his hand and held it tightly. Now, I was getting really scared. None of this made sense.
"I.." he trailed off. "You shouldn't know."
"You said I was in this anyways, so tell me!" I insisted, a little frustrated, but mostly because my heart was beating fast in my chest, and throbbing my head.
"I don't kn–" Aiden began but was cut off by my cell phone's notification sound.
I pulled it out immediately, expecting a text from either my mom or Maddie.
