How to be a Dog

"What did you say?" He asked and leaned forward. "I can't." I said and looked away. "Wha-who are you?" He asked growing upset. "Rhino, you just...just don't und-" I said when he interrupted me. "You are Bolt." He said and looked at him with determination. "But I'm not-" "Who single handed destroyed the Green Eyed Man's under sea labs?" He asked interrupted me again. "Me, but-" "And who foiled his plans to infiltrate the Olympics with his gymnastic cyborgs? Who, Bolt? Who?! Who?!" He asked as I still felt horrible. 

"Me, but none of the-" "You! You can, Bolt! Because all over this planet, there are animals who feel like they can't. Like a little hamster who once spent his days in an RV park. Dreaming of the day where he to would save a little girl from danger and you did it. You did it, Rhino. You saved the day. They need a hero, Bolt. Someone who, no matter what the odds, will do what's right." He said as I realized he's right.  "They need a hero to tell them that sometimes the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!" He said with determination.

"Well, you're right about one thing, Rhino. Y/N does need a hero." I said confidently as I realized I was growing a liking to her even if she doesn't like me back. "I guess I'll have to do." I said and stood up. "Such modesty! Now, who's going to save that dog?!" Rhino asked as I stood tall. "Me." I said and thought about her. "Who?! Tell me who!" Rhino shouted as he was getting pumped up. "Me!" I responded confidently. He laughed as I looked at him. "I'll go get my ball." He said happily.

Small Time Skip

I sniffed around as I found Y/N sweet maple wood scent. I stopped as her scent was stronger. I looked up to see the animal shelter. "Over there!" I said as we ran over and stopped to look at it. "There it is." I said and felt horrible for getting her caught. "This'll be just like that time you infiltrated Calico's undercover base!" Rhino fanned happily as his ball was fogged up. "It's not gonna be exactly like that, Rhino. We're gonna have to do things a little differently." I said and looked back at the shelter. 

"Oh, stealth mood." He said was we started going to the shelter. A guy walked out so we waited then walked in past the security guard. We watched her walk out as we ran and hid behind a wall. "I feel alive!" Rhino shout as I put a paw on his ball and hushed him. I sneaked over to the other wall and looked where they kept the dogs as a security guard sat at his desk. "There's a guard." I whispered softly. "I'll snap his neck." Rhino said and went to go to him but I stopped his ball.

 "We need to get him away from the door." I said as I looked to see the cat area. I rolled him into the room as the cats started meowing and going nuts for the hamster that has just entered. The guard threw a small fit and went to go check on them as I snuck into the dog room. I looked around and ran by a few cages. I walked by one that had a strong maple wood sent and turned back around to see Y/N sitting sadly in a corner with her back to me. "Y/N?" I asked softly. 

Y/N's POV

"Y/N?" I hear a voice that I thought I would never hear again ask softly. "Bolt?" I asked and turned around to see Bolt looking at me as my heart pounded softly. "What are you doing here?" I asked and walked into the front of the cage. "I'm busting you out!" He said and as I couldn't believe what he was saying. "You...You came all the way back here for me?" I asked softly. "Yeah." He said softly as he gave a small smile. "But how'd ya...I mean you don't have any super powers." I said in a quiet voice.

"I know." He said and looked away. "Really?" I asked with my head tilted. "Yeah." He said and nodded a little with a small smile. "Wow. Crazy day, huh?" I asked with a small smile. "It's been a lot. Yes, it has." He said and looked at the lock. "Are you ready for this?" He asked and looked at me. "No?" I said in more of a question. "Me either." He said as he unlocked my cage. I stepped out but nuzzled my head under his chin as I felt him freeze. "Thanks for coming back." I said softly as I felt him smile and nuzzle me back gently. 

"Anytime, Y/N." He said softly. "Now, let's get out of here!" He said as I nodded while we ran out. We ran to the cat room where a few cats were knocking Rhino around in his ball. Bolt barked as the guard turned around. "Hey! Wait!" The guard said and went to get us but we ran out of his reach causing him to fall to the ground. We started heading for the exit as Rhino and the guard was behind us. "Block the door! Block the door, block the door, block the door!" The guard yelled as the one who captured us blocked the door. 

"Super bark, super bark, super bark!" Rhino cheered happily. We slid to a stop as the guard behind us slipped and landed on Bolt's tail causing him to yelp as Rhino went flying and hit the other guards head causing him to fall then Rhino hit a helium tank as we used it as a distraction and ran out. There was a truck on fire as we ran. We ran and stopped near a highway to catch our breath as we looked at cars. "We need a ride." I said and watched the cars go by.

"Ooo! I've got a big one!" Rhino said as we looked at a semi pulling a trailer. "You're welcome." He said as we ran and got into the trailer. I slid and hit the cubers gently as Bolt and Rhino landed beside me as we panted softly. "I can't believe it! My whole life, I've waited for a real life super bark!" Rhino said and rolled away happily as we watched him. I looked at Bolt with a soft smile as his smile slowly disappeared. He sat down and looked away sadly, sighing softly. I looked at him as my ears perked up a little. He really is a good looking dog when he isn't dragging me around by a leash. 

"Y/N? If uh....if I don't chase bad guys, then-then what am I? I mean wha-" He stopped and sighed for a moment. "Ehh, don't worry about it. Being a regular dog is like the greatest gig in the world, okay?" I said and smiled softly at him then stood up then stood in front of him. "Look, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. A little know cat secret that my friend, Mittens, have told me. You know why they hate dogs? 'Cause they wanna be dogs! They have dog complexes! Being a dog is amazing!" I said as he looked up at me then back down.

"But...But what do dogs do?" He asked and looked back at me as I smiled. "Slobber, sleep, chase tails, chew shoes, you don't exactly need a Masters Degree." I said and giggled softly. "You know, most dogs live in a place like this. And um well I don't know. Well, they do things like-"

At the toilet

"OUT OF THIS?!" He asked in disgust as we sat by the toilet. "But-but! That's where humans do their business." He said and made a face. "Exactly why I don't do it." I said and walked out as he followed me. I walked back to the kitchen and smiled. "And this is your dog bowl." I said, looking at the floor. "What is?" He asked and sat down. "The floor! If it drops on the ground, it goes to the hound! How cool is that?" I asked and gently nudged him him with a smile. I turned and walked over to the living room where there was a fireplace with a happy sigh.

"And on cold nights. This and a chew toy. Oh, it doesn't better than that." I said and sat down in front of it with him walking up beside me. "You uh...you seem to know a lot about these places." He said softly and looked at me. "Yeah, I did my time in one of these but I'm more of a wild dog at heart, ya know? Sprung out first chance I got. Never looked back." I said and looked at him then away as he hummed in reply. "Rhino is awesome. He's so awesome" We hear in the vent as our ears perked up when as we looked at the vent and smiled at each other and went to find him shouting into the vent.

"He's-He's beyond awesome! He's be-awesome!" He shouted and twirled in his ball and looked at us for a split second before going to talk back into the vent. "He's-ahh" He stopped and realized we were there and turned to us as we smiled at the little goofball. "I am be-awesome." He said as he smiled and rolled a little back as Bolt sniffed at the the vent then took a deep sniff with a soft hum as he smiled. "I think it's about time I introduced you to the regular dog piece to resist tants." I said and nudged him to follow me. I hopped onto a shelf and opened a window.

"Go ahead. Stick your head out." I said and sat down. "Why?" He asked and looked at me with slight confusion. "Just do it." I said and smiled as he hopped up beside me and slowly stuck his head out. He started perking his ears up more as he chuckled softly as he was loving the wind in his fur. "This....This is awesome!" He said excitedly. "And stick your tongue out." I said and smiled as he stuck his tongue out while it waved in the wind. He chuckled more as I giggled softly. "This is totally awesome! Why don't you try it?" He asked as I shook my head a little. "Ehh, no thanks. It's more of a male thing." I said and scratched my ear with my back paw and laid down.
