Year 2267
"Humans are a product of billions of years of evolution. Can you imagine about 13.7 billion years ago, the universe formed from nothing. We don't know what caused the big bang. We don't know who directs the universe. But if there is someone, I'm sure that they do love humans because out of all the possible outcomes of the big bang, out of all the possibilities in which intelligent life could have existed ,the reality we live in was what happened.
Stephen Hawking said that we may be intelligent beings(for the mere ability to ask questions about our existence) but all our actions throughout the course of history have proven quite the converse.
We have destroyed our home. We talk about peace and yet furnish ourselves with weapons of mass destruction.
Shakespeare wrote-We like to think of ourselves as kings of infinite space when we are bound in a nutshell. The universe can only take so much destruction until it decides that it no longer needs to put up with humans.
We've razed our galaxy and I will not let anyone do the same to the entire universe.
Even if that means our extinction.",the man on top of the Dias spoke on and on but the little boy standing with his mother on the red soil didn't listen. He looked above him at the "globe" as he was told it was called. It was blue in color with white swirly patterns on it. It was hard for him to breathe, the crowd was too large, the artificial oxygen in the globe would run out soon.
One part of the globe had been damaged. It was breaking and through its crevices he could see the black nothing that lay beyond, wondering when he would be able to get back to the space station and away from this planet, called Mars.At the same time ,about 4,300,000,000 kilometers away, on a space station called Alpha 2,a woman was being sentenced to death.
She would be cast out in space and her body would be left there to rot.
What was her offense?
one might ask.
Curiosity. From the age of early Homo-sapiens, we have always been afraid of people who asked questions we didn't know answers to,People who had different ideas.
As the petite and sickly woman walked the plank all she could hear were the voices of her crying children and the shouts of her husband.
She smiled.
Not at her family's misery but at the fact that she was right.
That her research was the only thing that could save the people executing her.Without her they would all die a long painful death. Their whole species would go extinct if worst came to worst. In that moment she didn't think of her husband or her children who would die horribly as well. She just knew that she was the Right one.
She closed her eyes and prepared to be ejected out into the cold, infinite space.
