Monster Hunter Stories: The Adventure Begins!

Back in the Saddle

Dan: "Okay Riders! Let's get started, today we are going to be learning how to Ride!" Dan explained.

Dan had just opened a new class he and Chief Omna had come up with. It was a class to teach new Riders how to bond with their Monsties. Navirou had convinced me to try again, and we could only cross our fingers it would go well this time.

Dan: "Okay so watch me and my Qurupeco carefully!" he said mounting it slowly.

Dan: "See how I mounted it? I got up slowly and carefully, and my Monstie stood still and calm! Now in the heat of battle when you Ride, by then you will hopefully be able to mount up quick and easy! But for now just take it slow, it may take a few tries till you get the basics down."

All the new Riders including myself started to try and mount our Monsties, I kept jumping up to far, or to fast, continuously falling over the other side of the saddle into the dirt.

Navirou: "Cmon pawtner! You can do it, remember what Dan said? Try to go slowly!"

Yn: "Alright, let's try this again Pn." I said determined to get it right.

I slowly threw one leg over the saddle and heaved myself on, I had done it! I was now sitting on top of Pn's back, things looked so different from up here, I hadn't noticed when we had been in battle with that Nargacuga.

Dan: "Nice job Yn! That is Awesome! Soon you will be top of the class!" he winked at me.

Navirou came running over excitedly,

Navirou: "Good job Yn! I'm so excited to get back out and go adventuring with you and Pn again!" he said with a big smile.

Yn: "Same, I guess I didn't give this a proper chance last time. Because I think me and Pn are bonding more and more every day!" I say hopping off Pn's back and giving him a pat.

Navirou: "Yeah, after we attend the evening class we should ask Dan if we can start taking quests!"

Yn: "Yeah that's a good idea. I really wish we could go outside the village...but if the outside world is filled with monsters even stronger then that Blighted Nargacuga, It's probably not a good idea..." I said walking Pn back to the stables.

Navirou: "That's true but I've traveled all over the whole world, it's amazing out there!" Navirou said with a cheeky grin. 

Yn: "Yeah I bet it is, well anyways Lilia, Cheval and I all had plans today to go out so I'll be back a bit later alright?" I said locking the stable. 

Navirou: "Alright I'll just be eating donuts, have fun!" he said running off. 

I started walking down to the village gates where Lilia said we would be meeting, I wondered how Cheval would react to all of us being together again if he even came. He hardly ever spoke and never seemed to smile as if he didn't have a soul. 

Lilia: "Hey Yn! Excited for what I have planned?" she said eagerly. 

Yn: "Yeah I think having the group back together is really awesome." I say smiling brightly. 

Lilia: "Well all we need to do is wait for Cheval, I hope he shows up..." she said. 

Yn: "I wish I could say he will, but these days you never know with him...sometimes he just disappears." I say looking around for the red-haired male. 

Lilia: "Yeah...after his mother passed away he hasn't been himself. He doesn't have any family left but you Yn. But your both parentless now..." she said quietly. 

Yn: "Well...I still think we can try to help, I just wish he would stop shutting us out..." 

Lilia and I waited for a while near the gates, Cheval still hadn't shown yet.
