Ash Song

I woke up before my alarm clock beeped. Looking out the window, I saw the sun just rising painting the sky with pink and gold. I groaned. I wished I had woken up earlier. It felt much more relaxing to be outside during nighttime.

I got out of bed and turned off the alarm and looked at the other half of the room, where my twin sister slept.

Rose and I were only twins by date. We acted nothing alike and we looked nothing alike. Rose looked more like Dad with her long curly black hair and her pale blue eyes. I looked more like Mom, unfortunately with my teal eyes and brown hair.

I crept over to where Rose slept and shook her awake. Rose gasped and blinked quickly. "Ash?" she asked, her eyes struggling to get used to the darkness.

"Yeah it's me," I said. "Come on! Let's go!"

"Go where?" she asked, confused. Rose sat up on her pale blue comforter and tried to look around me for the clock. "Ash? Ash, what time is it?"

"Oh, um..." I thought quickly and tried to come up with something that wasn't the truth, but not a total lie either. Dad taught me how to. "I woke you up before school time," I said. Good. That was true.

"We have time before we have to go to school and I want to practice for tackle bramble. Can you practice with me?" I concluded.

Rose groaned, but as I knew she would,  she got up. "Why can't you ask Brett to do it with you?" she asked. "Why me?"

Because I wanted to say. Brett lives downstairs and I don't want to cause so much racket that Mom and Dad wake up! Also, Brett would probably tell Mom and Dad!

"Because um...You are good at Tackle Bramble?" I said.

Rose arched an eyebrow. "Yeah. Totally," she said.

"Um..." I said nervously. Why hadn't I thought of something better? Why was it so hard to convince my sister to play tackle bramble with me in the middle of the night?

Rose sighed. "Look," she said. "I'll play Tackle Bramble with you-" I pumped my fist in the air. "But-," Rose said, lifting a finger. I stopped.

"But I probably won't do very well because it's the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT?" Rose said. "Ash! Why is it the middle of the night?"

I sighed. "Look," I said. "Rose, I just really, really wanted to play tackle bramble. I can't let Chris beat me!"

Chris Dizznee. He almost always beat me in P.E class. The instructors said not to worry because he was a guy and our strength wasn't equal and all that other stuff. But, I HATED it when he beat me. Tackle Bramble was my best sport and I wasn't going to let anyone beat me in that.

"Who cares if Chris beats you?" Rose said. "It's 1:45 AM! It's still nighttime! I'm not going outside in the middle of the night to get beaten up by you while playing tackle bramble!"

"Please Rose?" I asked. "I'll do anything you want!"

Rose grinned. "Anything?" I nodded ferociously. She smiled. "You have yourself a deal."

Me and Rose came back from the yard sweating bullets. Rose had played hard. I never knew my sister could play tackle bramble! Well, I suppose being a Vanisher would have helped her with her sneak attacks.

I quickly changed into my sleepwear and jumped in bed just as Mom burst into the room. "How are my girls?" Mom said energetically.

I moaned and turned in bed, pretending to be tired while I was actually quite energized. Mom put her hands on her hips. "Ash Song..."
