Demi and Regina head to the school where Mary-Margaret Blanchard was teaching.

Mary Margaret was holding a bird on her finger, "As we build our bird houses, remember: what you're making is a home. Not a cage. A bird is free, and do what it will. This is for them, not us. They're loyal creatures." She opens the window and releases the bird.

"If you love them and they love you, they will will find you." The bell rings and the kids get out of their seats in a hurry. "We will pick this up after recess. No running!"

Regina and Demi enter the room. Mary Margaret notices them. "Miss Mills, what are you doing here?"

"Where is my daughter?" Regina asks.

"Emma..I thought she was at home with you."

"You think I'd be here if she was? Did you give her your credit card so she can find her?" Regina gestures to Demi behind her.

Mary Margaret looks at Demi, "I'm sorry, who are you?"

Demi looks at Mary Margaret, "I'm-I'm her.."

Regina rolls her eyes, "the woman who gave her up for adoption."

Demi sighs softly then redirects her attention to the black, pixie haired teacher, "you don't know anything about this, do you?"

Mary Margaret walks over to her wallet, "No, unfortunately not." She looks for her credit card, "Clever girl. I should have never given her that book."

Regina raises her hands, "what in the hell is this book I keep hearing about?"

"Just some old stories I gave her. As you well know, Emma is a special girl: so smart, so creative and as you might be aware, lonely. She needed it." Mary Margaret put her wallet in her purse.

Regina sighs, "What she needs is a dose of reality. This is a waste of time. Have a nice trip back to Boston." Regina walks out in a huff and knocks over some books on a desk.

Demi walks over to help Mary Margaret pick them up. "I'm sorry to bother you." Demi says.

Mary Margaret shakes her head, "No it's—it's okay, I fear this is partially my fault."

They stand, "How's a book suppose to help?"

"What do you think stories are for? These stories? The classics? There's a reason we all know them. They're a way for us to deal with our world. A world that doesn't make sense. See, Emma hasn't had the easiest life."

They leave the classroom and walk down the hall, "Yeah, she's kind of a hard ass."

"No, it's more than her. She's like any adopted child. She wrestles with that most basic question they all inevitably face: why would anyone give me away?" Mary Margaret realizes what she just said and looks at Demi, "Oh, I am so sorry. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean in anyway to judge you.."

Demi shakes her head, "It's okay."

"Look, I have her the book because I wanted Emma to have the most important thing anyone can have; hope. Believing in even the possibility of a happy ending is a very powerful thing."

Demi tilts her head, "you know where she is don't you." Mary Margaret smiles, "you might want to check her castle."
