jeongguk's pov

my eyes widened when i meant to squint, trying to act intimidating to this so called 'jimin'. but no, my eyebrows raised in confusion as i saw taehyung lean back into jimin's embrace.

i couldn't watch this.

i ran out of the shop, the bell ringing violently as i continued to speed down the street. i looked back to see no one following me and stopped to catch my breath. around me was my best friend sicheng's old neighbourhood, childhood memories rushing back to me.

flashback

"when we're grown ups, we're going to stick together right?" a young sicheng announced.

"of course! nothing can separate us! i swear if you leave me i will cry so much..." a seven year old jeongguk replied.

"i will always be here ggukkie, even when we're old and fat, i will always be next to you. i promise."

to when sicheng and gguk
were eleven year olds

"ggukkie, i have something to say." sicheng whispered as him and his best friend watched the clouds.

"go on, tell me anything, nothing could make me miserable today!" jeongguk said with a grin on his face.

"i'm leaving for china, and i'm not coming back."

end of flashback

he lied to me. he never stayed by my side. that night i cried until my throat was hoarse and my eyes stung. we weren't going to grow old together. he broke his promise.

but this time i kept my tears in. that was in the past. i had my future ahead of me and i couldn't dwell on what couldn't be changed.

seokjin ran up to me and placed a hand on my shoulder. in between shaky breaths he spoke,

"gguk, you can't just run off like that — it took ages to find you!"

"sorry hyung, i won't do it again."

"i have a confession to make about that boy in the biscuit shop, but i'll save that for another time."
