Baron's POV -- ↣
People watching, it was my favourite things to do on weekends. I'd go down to the café at the corner of my street, decide which herbal tea I was gonna drink on that day, and pick the closest table to the window. I plopped down in the faux black leather chair, observing my surroundings. It was a calm day, people coming in and out of the shop whenever they pleased. I turned my head to the window on my right, watching people pass as I sipped at my drink. I leaned over the side of my chair to pull out my notebook, struggling as I do so. This wasn't just any notebook, the contents inside were unpredictable due to the fact that it was notes I had taken down to remember the beautiful people I had laid eyes on. I opened to a fresh page and wrote the date on the top right corner, March 7, 2014. I waited patiently to see someone who caught my eye. The first one, a man, mid 40's, tall and rough looking. He wore a dark suit and had a newspaper tucked under his arm. Noted. A little while after, a woman walked passed, pushing her child in a stroller. She was elegant and almost frail looking, but she was clearly exhausted.
Moments passed, where I considered packing my stuff and leaving, but something was holding me back. A couple more minutes went by, I doodled in my notebook and tried to tame my scrambled thoughts. I froze, just then, feeling uneasy. My head perked up and cocked to the side, admiring the boy outside the window. He was looking right at me. Cigarette in one hand, book in the other. He was tall, no taller then 6'2, he had a warm smile, like milk and honey. I watched as he dropped the cigarette to the ground, kindly crushing it under his brown suede boots. He turned on his foot and walked away. I quickly popped the cap off my pen, scribbling down the details of the beautiful being I had just seen outside the window. The bell on top of the café door rang. It was him.

He walked up to the front counter, his stride kept steady but graceful. He talked with his hands, pointing in the direction of the shortbread cookies they had stored in the glass cabinets. His drink was handed to him and he turned his right hip outward, his legs soon following as he re-adjusted his bag on his shoulder. He scanned the room for an empty seat. His chestnut curls falling ever so slightly in his eyes every time he turned his head. That's when it happened, his eyes fell on me, for the second time that afternoon. He sheepishly approached the table I was seated at, stopping right in front of me. "Hi ummm... Is this- is this seat taken?" He managed to fumble out, as he scratched the back of his neck. "No, I'm here alone, you can uh, sit if you want." I replied, not really knowing what to say to the boy in front of me. It's not that I didn't want him to sit with me, it's that I just didn't know how to talk to beautiful people, that's why I observed them, I tried to understand them better. "I'm Ashton." He chirped, extending his hand while standing up from his seat to reach me across the table. I took his hand, it was warm and calloused. "I'm Baron." I silently prayed that I wouldn't find some way to fuck this up.

"I've never seen you around here before, what part of town are you from?" I asked while sipping on my now cold tea. "I actually live 10 minutes away from here, I've lived here all my life." He replied politely. I hated small talk, it was awkward and unnecessary. I watched Ashton as he laced his slender fingers around his coffee cup, slowly pulling it up towards his lush pink lips. It was so hard not to stare. I decided to redirect my eyes somewhere else, they landed on the book he had placed on the table. It's kind of a funny story it read. "Is that a good book?" I looked up at him through my long lashes, waiting for his response. "I'm not sure" he started off, clearing his throat and finishing his sentence "I just picked it up at the book store around the corner." He smirked. I was taking down mental notes, to remember the littlest details of Ashton, because he was simply stunning. He grabbed the book from beside him, picking it up and turning it over, as to read the back summary. I watched his other hand, as it searched for something in his pocket. Glasses. He placed the marbled frames on his face and ran his fingers through his hair. I watched as he lifted his head up to look at me, mouth slightly agape as if he was going to speak. "So Baron, tell me about yourself. Family, school, favourite colour, genre of music?..." I held back a sigh. More small talk. "Um, I'm from a family of 4, I'm currently a junior in high school, I think teal is a pretty cool colour and I enjoy all types of music. That's one of the things I like about myself, is my diverse music taste." My mouth set in a straight line, I was expecting Ashton to be a little more interesting than this. His brows knitted together, "I'm boring you aren't I?" He giggled. My eyes went wide after hearing the noise, and I quickly covered my mouth to prevent a snort from escaping. "Not gonna lie Ashton, I want to get to know you, but not through a game of 21 questions." I rolled my eyes as if on cue. "Well then Baron, shoot and I will answer." Cocky, I thought. Only at times though, he clearly has a heart of gold. All of his smiles so far have been genuine, his dimples revealed on each cheek. He's different. He doesn't mind sitting with a weird girl in a coffee shop at 2 in the afternoon, while she soaks up his beaming personality and tries to figure him out. He's different. He doesn't wear sport attire like every other boy, he wears flimsy band tees that are almost precisely shredded to show off his hollowed collarbones. He's different and I like it.

A/N: Hi, so this is the very first chapter of my fanfic. Yes I'm aware there are some errors and it is kind of boring at the moment... I'm not sure if I want to continue this bc I'm not sure if I really like it, plus I've heard that there are many other fanfics like this one so I don't wanna make it seem like I'm copying anyone. (I'm not)
I tried to put a picture of Ashton on the side but I'm new at this so I couldn't figure it out. (I also linked a play list of songs that could be heard at the coffee shop, and a couple of songs that I really like.)
Also I'm in need of a cover, I quickly made the current one and it looks so cheesy omg
Feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!!
Love, Hannah. xx
