Whatever it is that Gamora managed to do - whatever it is that allowed her to touch Five without gloves and not kill him - she cannot replicate for the life of her. And it's certainly not for lack of effort.
Every waking moment is consumed by the thought that she's spent all of her life trying to avoid. These days, it doesn't feel like a faraway dream, a reality that dances just feet away from her, taunting her with the knowledge that no matter how hard she tries, it will never be hers. She will never be free. These days, it feels like a real possibility, a chance to regain her life and finally gain the reins of the demon that has merely shared her form all these years.
The thought is nearly terrifying.
Perhaps it's the anticipation of something for which she's been holding her breath her entire life or the mere lack of knowledge of the possibilities that lay beyond what she's learned of her powers, something is holding her back - like a noose around her neck, keeping her from transforming as she's meant to. Perhaps into a phoenix, rising from the ashes or the monster that she's always feared hides beneath her harmless face, is to be decided.
