Kai's POV
I ran through the unfamiliar hallway, frantically looking for a door leading to the exit. Sweat dripped down my face as I was on the verge of having a panic attack. I ran faster and finally came upon a huge metal door with a key pad beside it requesting a password. I knew then, that I was doomed.
I woke up with a start and realized I was drenched in sweat. I quickly rushed to the bathroom and hopped into the shower, frantically scrubbing my skin as though the flimsy sponge would wash away the recurring night mare I've been having for the past few days.
Today was the day I was supposed to be adopted by my so called ''uncle'' and I had a very bad feeling about it but I couldn't refuse the chance of finally leaving Miss Daley who never misses an opportunity to beat me up. I couldn't exactly pin point why she usually took out her anger on me but I couldn't exactly fight back because she was 260lbs of pure muscle and I didn't want to try my luck.
I stepped out of the shower and dried my body quickly with my towel which was tearing and the seams slightly and put on a dark blue shirt with my favorite pair of jeans. I checked the time on my ancient phone and saw I was already 15 minutes late for breakfast.
I guess missing one meal wouldn't hurt.
I slipped on my beat-up converses and grabbed my phone from the charging port then headed to the care takers office, dreading each step.
I knock on the big brown door twice and was instantly replied by a ''come in''. I walked into Miss Daley's office and shut her door softly then turned to meet her piercing gaze and instantly froze but relaxed when I saw my 'uncle'.
There's no way she could hurt me in front of him. Right?
She gestured me to sit down with her hand and I obeyed while still looking at her. '' As you can see, your uncle is here to take you so after signing a few documents, you'll go back your bags'', she drawled. Miss Daley passed a few documents to me and instructed me where to sign which I did happily. After signing the required documents, I excused myself to go pack my bags.
I walked into my room with a huge smile on my face and quickly looked for my carry on bag then stuffed my ridiculously small amount of clothing inside. I gave my room one last look and closed the door gingerly, a whole wave of excitement rushing through me.
I'm going to be free finally.
Before I could approach the care taker's office, I saw my uncle leave and beckon me to follow him to the parking lot where his beat up red chevy was located. I jumped into the car without a word and proceeded to bring out my head phones so as to ignore him for the whole ride but my hopes were quickly crushed when he looked at me with a 'we have got to talk face' , to which I nodded.
'I'm not your uncle Kai. You should know that by now'', he said while looking straight ahead. He turned to me and looked at me warmly, 'I don't want to scare you or anything but I assure you that you're safe in my hands, your mother wouldn't want it any other way'.
When he mentioned my mother, a blinding rage overtook me but before could do anything, he handcuffed me. 'This will keep you safe for the ride, my boy. You have much to learn.''
