"Mum? Mum?!" Min Yoongi called out, wondering why the house was in a desolate silence.
The floorboards creaked loudly as he walked in the space between the narrow entrance and the kitchen. As he got closer, the sounds crescendoed and he identified the whirring of the dishwasher and a drip, drip, drip. Yoongi was standing in the kitchen now, eyes now focused on the water dripping from the ceiling and the old, red bucket collecting the unwanted leak. A few unopened letters sat on the kitchen table waiting to be read, they were now collecting dust. Some ingredients for soup were left unattended next to the stove; lentils, tomatoes, a carrot, some seasoning...
The door that led outside to the garden was slightly ajar and Yoongi was concerned about where his mother was exactly and why everything was left like this.
"Mum!" He shouted louder this time. "MU—"
Suddenly the door closed behind him and his mother had rushed in, scaring the living daylights out of Yoongi.
"Hey hey hey, shh. The baby is sleeping" she spoke in a hushed voice, Yoongi acquiesced lowering his voice to match his mum.
"Why is the door open? Anyone could of go—"
His mother cut him off by leading him to the table to sit down and he obliged immediately.
"Let me make dinner, we can talk. I just needed to put the baby down, I was only gone a few minutes."
Yoongi was about to say that 'it didn't matter and anything could have happened' but he decided against it and let his mother cook the soup.
~~~~
"Yoongi, where have you been?" His mum asked softly, placing her hand on his. Their empty bowls were in front of them and now they both wanted answers.
"I was hungry last night, so I couldn't get the bus back." Yoongi hung his head shamefully.
"Did you have anywhere to stay?" The thing about Yoongi's mother, was that his safety was her number one concern.
"Yes I crashed at someone's" Yoongi said quickly so she wouldn't press more on the discussion. He then looked her in the eyes deeply, to the most understanding person in his life.
"Go ahead" she accepted.
"Why is there a leak? I thought we got it fixed" Yoongi said worriedly.
"I- I don't know. I guess the person that came did a crappy job. Another rip off." She answered honestly before absentmindedly continuing, more like an after thought;
"And with everything that's happened with your father, it's so cruel"
"What do you mean?" Yoongi had heard, loud and clear.
"Huh?" His mum snapped out.
"What happened to dad?" Yoongi said confidently.
"He's, he's been—"
But she couldn't bring herself to tell him. In fact, they were sat there for a good ten minutes. The sound of each brooding tick of the clock was more time ridding the pair from sleep that awaited them.
Finally she spoke, "Your father....your father has been fired"
"What?!" Yoongi nearly stood but his mother put her finger to her lips, referring to the sleeping baby upstairs.
"I don't understand, why even...why did it happen?" Yoongi questioned but his mum couldn't even answer that.
Yoongi's rising anger was returning, this time mixed with more emotion.
"Listen, we can try to reason with him. The one who made the decision that is." His mum was trying to be reassuring but it wasn't helping. Although Yoongi's breaths were becoming more uneven and stronger, he stopped at her words.
"Who is it?" He said trying to gain control.
She said nothing.
"WHO WAS IT?" Yoongi hit his hands on the table making his mum flinch. She knew he would never turn violent on her. Not ever in a million years. But she knew he wouldn't let it go, especially with the impatient look she was staring at for ten minutes prior, spread across his face.
"Mr Kim Hee-joon" she said with a pained expression.
"You mean Kim Namjoon's father?!" He shouted with his shaky angry breaths, not thinking about the baby anymore.
"P-please Yoongi, darling. Calm down." She pleaded.
But Yoongi has already stormed up the stairs to his room. Letting out a frustrated groan, he pushed everything off the dresser, the first piece of furniture he saw. Tears started to cloud his vision as he balled his hand into a fist and rammed it at the wall of his bedroom, letting out a cry. He started to repeat this.
One.
Why is Namjoon trying to ruin his life?
Two.
Hadn't he and his family suffered enough?
Three.
The baby started crying.
Four.
First, that asshole hit him with a car and now he made his dad jobless.
"Please Yoongi..." His mother was distressed and he had grown exhausted.
Yoongi had given up sinking to the floor, letting the tears run freely from his eyes like tiny little heartbeats.
Guess revenge is only around the corner.
