We arrived at the band room, after finally doing something right, we had nothing to fear at nightfall. However, we weren't going to rest, not now.
"Come on," I pleaded, "Open the portal."
"Yeah, come on Vi."
The others had joined in on trying to persuade Violet. But apparently our use of 'Vi' didn't help. She glared at us like we were titans.
"Don't," She said, clearly angry, "Call me 'Vi'."
"Okay." I replied.
We all backed away with our hands up in a sign of surrender.
"What's gotten into you Violet?" Chase questioned.
"Like you would understand." Pent up rage seeped from every syllable.
"Don't start snapping," Daniel reprimanded.
"This is your fault." Christopher started.
"My fault?!!?!?!?!!" She was ready to kill, and I knew she had the skills to back it up.
I went into the storage room while Violet ranted at Jackson, Daniel, Christopher, and Chase. Mason was staying out of this conversation altogether. I checked the books that Violet had pulled out of her bag earlier, but I couldn't make odds or ends of the scribbles in them.
"Great," I whispered to myself, "Just great. She has books that only she can read and that leaves us stuck here unless she, all of them really, co-operate and stop fighting each other.
I couldn't tell what was worse, the ruckus made by the titans, or Violet's yelling. I searched for something to at least keep Violet from murdering Chase, Jackson, Christopher, and Daniel. I picked up the forgotten cymbals and marched back to the main portion of the band room. Once I arrived, it was strangely quiet, all I could here was a soft sobbing sound. As I gazed around, I realized that it was Violet who was crying. She was kneeling on the ground and crying. The world must be ending, if Violet was showing this range of emotions. The others were backing away, as they had no clue what to do in this situation. Violet was left alone to hiccup herself into a silence. When she achieved that, Violet stood up, and glided to the storage closet. The way she acted was a clear indicator that what ever had happened, she wanted to forget about it and she went as far as pretending the rest of us didn't exist.
"What happened?" I demanded.
I turned to each of the guys in turn. Christopher, Mason, Chase, Jackson, and Daniel had no idea what happened, so we left it at that and followed Violet into the storage room.
"Does this mean no portal?" Mason asked.
I shrugged my shoulders, as did everyone else, except Violet. It remained silent for a little bit, everyone exchanged guilty looks and I was really concerned about what had happened.
"Hey guys," Violet called, her voice very uneasy, "I need help."
"What is it?" I questioned quickly, thinking that it had something to do with the melt down, as I called it.
She was frantically brushing the wall with her fingers. "I can't find the portal!" She practically shouted, everyone could tell she was panicked.
"Are you sure it was around here?" Daniel inquired.
"Pretty sure." Violet said.
"What does it feel like?" Jackson pondered.
"Oh I don't know!" Violet snapped, " I guess it would feel like a Peruvian rug. What do you think, huh? It's suppose to feel like a piece of paper on a wall! Honestly!"
That last word came out on a sigh, but we could tell that Violet was stressed. Shoot, we all were. Yet we all knew that Violet did most of the leg work.
"Now now," Chase began trying to soothe the situation the only way he knew how, "There is absolutely no need for this....jumping of the throats." Comedy and an accent, classic Chase, "We just need to level out."
"That would be easier," Violet stated, "If I didn't think and act like the Chamber of Secrets."
Her statement obtained several questioning looks and all the raised eyebrows.
"Oh never mind." She reposed, turning back to the wall to try to find the paper that covered the portal.
At least ten minutes passed before Violet finally gave up. The rest of us had stopped way before that though.
"That's it." I said, "This situation is just a downhill roller coaster."
"Balderdash." Violet reprimanded. She was looking through the books that were still neatly put up.
"What?" The word circulated at least twice.
Violet looked up to pure confusion, "Oh, uh, nonsense." She turned back to her book.
"What other plans do you have Alex?" Jackson asked mockingly.
"Yeah, we can't wait to hear your latest scheme to put us in danger." Daniel scolded.
"Hey!" Christopher cried, "It isn't that cut and dry."
"This isn't his fault." Mason interjected.
"Well," Chase argued, "He's the only one who is coming up with anything," he pointed at Violet, "And she's the only one chasing her tail."
A book snapped shut. Uh-oh, Violet is either on the verge of a break through, or leaving, again.
"Hey Alex," She began, consulting me, "Who all did you plan to 'summon'?" She air-quoted this.
"Uh," I started, "Um, I haven't given it that much thought yet."
"Then 'tis time to brainstorm." She proclaimed jestingly.
Violet picked up a pen and paper and just looked at me as if I was to be the only one who should come up with these kinds of ideas.
