Amanda's pov

I woke up to a strange feeling during the night. I sat up and looked around. Nothing seemed off. I looked down at my wrists which still had the yellow markings at my arms. I lay in the bed, staring up for a while till I had enough.

I pushed myself up off the bed and sat with my legs dangling over the edge. The ankle that had been hit was all bandaged up as well ass a few other injuries I had obtained over the years. I slipped off the bed and tried to stand but fell flat on the floor instead.

I grabbed onto a piece of furniture to hoist myself up and leaned on the wall as I went into the hallway. I limped along the hall until something wrapped itself around me. I looked to see a red cape. I raised an eyebrow and tried to get it off but it wouldn't budge.

"You do realise that you shouldn't be walking around with that injury, right?" someone asked. I turned around to see Stephen. "I'm fine" I responded. He sighed before walking over. The cape unwrapped itself from me and floated next to him as he put his hands under my arms.

"What are you doing?" I asked. He picked me up, turned around and walked back to the room I was in, placing me on the bed. "Why are you so determined to leave?" he asked. "I don't want to stay here. Besides, I need to get more money" I replied, crossing my arms.

"You don't have a job, do you?" he asked. "So" I shrugged. He sighed. "How about this. When your injury has healed, you can work at the new York sanctum, dusting books and stuff like that. In exchange, I'll pay you and you can live at the sanctum" he explained.

"You want me to work with books?" I asked. "I can help you train your powers in return for the help as well" he explained. I looked down, thinking about it. "Alright" I finally agreed. He smiled.

"Now can you tell me what these are?" he asked, holding my arm up and gesturing to the yellow markings. "They indicate when I have taken in too much of an element. I do have a limit you know" I explained.

"How does your power work?" he asked. "I take in one of the five elements I can use from around me and use it to attack but I can't produce iit myself" I explained, fiddling with my sleeve.

"Never heard of a power like that. It's very unique" he stated. I just turned away and sighed, not interested in what he had to say.
