Chapter 9

We were silent for a while before Emma peaked around the laptop to see what Laura was doing.

Laura pulled away, "Uh, excuse me!" Laura smiled.

"Well! Excuse me for existing and being here at this moment!" Emma said dramatically. "Come on, what you up to?"

"It's a secret," Laura joked.

"Gasp! And you can't tell me? I won't tell." Emma joked. "Come on Laura," Emma leaned forward to see. "I didn't know you had a Splash-Cove account! Add me I'm-"

"No," Laura pulled the computer away.

"What?"

"It's not-Never mind."

Emma rolled her eyes.

"Where are you going?" I asked when Emma opened the door.

"Bathroom," I knew Emma good enough to know she was lying.

Laura looked up and waited until Emma closed the door.

"Why can't you tell us about that?"

"It's not really me. I mean it's me but it's not my real account. I'm not allowed to have an account." Laura said, typing something.

"Oh," I nodded my head. "Hey, where were you after lunch, some people where worried?"

"Yeah, I went home because during basketball at lunch, I hurt my knee. Mr. Anderson drove me home."

"Okay."

"Oh my gosh, where's Annabel?" Laura exclaimed.

"Cheerleading."

"That little-uhh!" Laura stood up.

"What happened?" I followed her to the kitchen, where Emma was talking to Ms. Dorsen.

"Mom! It was Anna!"

"Laura, what's going on?" Ms. Dorsen asked.

"My Splash-Cove, Mom! Annabel hacked it!"

I realised Laura had lied to me.

"How do you know it was her?"

"Mom, because! She doesn't like me and she wanted to get back at me for pushing her in the pool in front of Dawson! She got on it and did stuff!"

Ms. Dorsen looked like she didn't believe her, "What kind of stuff?"

"Okay, first she told Aidan that I liked him, and then she told Chase!"

"Told Chase what?"

"That I like him!"

"Well, you do, don't you?"

"Mom!"

"Laura! You don't know that Annabel really did this, you don't. And now you are just embarrassing yourself in front of your friends." Ms. Dorsen poured more orange juice in Emma glass. Emma was frozen, so was I.

Emma looked at me. I hoped that her look meant she wanted to leave.

Laura turned around and stomped to her room, we heard the door slam.

Her mother sighed and looked at the ground. "Girls, I'm sorry Laura has been...depressed, confused, sad. She is having some problems expressing herself, and getting everything out. She doesn't trust anyone anymore."

Emma looked at me like she was going to say something. I knew what she wanted to say, but I wanted to tell her that if Laura knew now, she wouldn't come, it wouldn't help her.
