Chapter 11
“Oh, no! We have a history test today?” Sarah yelled.
“Well, duh,” Rachel said pulling out her binder from her locker. “Have you seen Annabel?”
I looked up, “What, Annabel? No, not today.”
The bell rang.
We closed our lockers and started walking.
“Do you know where Emma is?” Sarah asked.
“Yesterday she got scared to death, but I don’t know where she is now,” I said.
“Did you write your poem for English?” Rachel asked.
“English! Was it due today?” Sarah said panicking.
“No, what’s you problem today?” Rachel snickered.
“Nothing, you’ll think it’s stupid,” Sarah mumbled.
“Why?”
“Because it is,” Sarah looked down at the ground. “My mom needed me to bake a wedding cake for her, but I forgot. So I was up all night doing that.”
Rachel put her hand over her mouth to stop her from giggling. When she looked up her smile dropped and she starred strait forward.
Sarah and looked forward, amazed.
“Is that—“ Sarah whispered.
“No way,” Rachel said.
It was the most outrageous thing you could think of; Laura. Hair curled. Tight t-shirt. Skinny jeans.
“No- No- No way.” I said, thinking of the things that happened yesterday.
“Hi,” Laura said happily, like she was Annabel.
We were still stunned.
“Wow, no, how?” Sarah asked.
Laura laughed. “It was something that I took care of last night.”
Rachel looked scared. “Where’s Annabel?”
“Oh,” Laura smiled, “She is fine, don’t worry.”
“But where is she? Is she coming to school?” Sarah said in an angry tone.
“Probably not, she doesn’t feel very good today, but she is fine,” Laura waved goodbye, still smiling, and walked passed us.
“What did she do to Annabel?” Sarah sounded like she would cry.
Rachel looked terrified and worried. She understood what Sarah was implying.
I knew what they were thinking. I didn’t want to believe it too, but I didn’t know what to think.
