Chapter 2

"Annabel, is Laura always like this?" I asked when we sat down at lunch.

"Yeah, pretty much. Ever since we moved in with them, she has been different, well, at least when I'm there."

"DO you think it's because of-"

Annabel cut Sarah off, "Well, yeah, I know we would all be different or wouldn't have changed if Katelyn didn't..... You know?"

We sat in silence for a while.

"Hey, vote for Avery for Vice-Pres.!" Some girl threw a clip at us that read "Vote 4 Avery!"

"I'm not gonna vote for her! Why is she running for vice, when she is old enough to be President?" Emma smirked.

"Yeah I know! I already told Michael Daniels I would vote for him. No matter who was running Avery would never get my vote!" I said. "Last year I was in the student council and she never let anyone do anything their way! If someone raised their hand because they had an idea, like five seconds later you would hear Avery say, 'Miss Parker, I think we should do this instead because that person's idea wasn't good enough for me!' "

"That's not what she said!" Sarah laughed.

"So? That's what she meant! And the teacher always agreed with little Avery!"

"Last year everybody's speeches were funny, not reasonable or true! They just made the teachers laugh so that's why they were remembered by everyone else!" Emma said.

"Yeah, you're right! Do you remember David...... David Hazel's speech? He was so funny in his presentation, and he made a pretty good first impression but he was the most selfish, annoying, self centered baby EVER! He uses to cry when someone would interrupt his answer or correct him! He used to lie about his grades so he would be the best. He used to cry his eyes out when the teacher said something to him that wasn't 'That was the best answer in the class!' Yes, I did exaggerate it there but whatever!"

"Wow, Rachel!" Annabel laughed. "After all that and this being my first year, I don't want to vote!"

"But that's just it," Sarah said. "The student council is supposed to be so organised but there are at least two positions that are miscalculated every year! How or why? No one knows, but they have this problem where if there aren't these many votes handed in they freak out and make sure everyone did. So somehow they will track you down if you don't vote."

"Wow, that was tiring, and a good way to burn time," Emma joked.

"Oh!" Annabel said, looking at her watch. "Have to get to Mademoiselle Fornier's room to ask her about the French project. See ya!" She got up, took a bite out of her apple and ran down the hall.

"Hey do you know where Laura would be?" I asked.

"My guess would be in the gym with the basketball team, I think there's a practice," Rachel said as she stood up.

"Would you rather watch the boys' soccer team, Rachel?" said a voice from behind.

"Cut it out Jack, we know you make fun of her 'cuz you like her," said Sarah. "Since when were you in our conversation, anyway?"

"I think Rachel could stand up for herself!" protested Jack.

"Let's go," Rachel whispered and pulled my sleeve.

I was about to follow her, when I heard Emma say, "You better watch it, Rachel's brother can take you down!" Rachel turned around.

"Rachel, come on. It's ok," I said, hoping she would listen.

I knew Rachel was mad at all three of them, Emma, Sarah, and Jack.

"My brother can, of course, but I can too, Emma!" Rachel lied

"Oh, really? Let me see you try!" Jack smiled
