Man Down

"Ahh! Will!" I yelled as we both dropped down. I felt the searing pain in my arm and looked down seeing blood.

"Ah, fuck." He said grabbing me as we both grabbed our guns. "She's hit!" He called out as he quickly ripped part of his shirt trying it tightly around my arm.

"She ok?" Benny yelled.

"She's fine it just grazed her shoulder!" Will called back as the other fired.

"Oh, shit!" Someone else yelled.

"Shooters on the ridgeline." Pope yelled firing.

"Oh, he likes me so much." Tom said as we all realized most of the shots were aimed at him. "I'll stay here to hold his fire." He said, "You guys go around the side."

"I want you to stay here." Will said grabbing my face." I nodded at him.

'Be safe."

"Redfly keep her safe man." He said looking up at Cap before he yelled at Pope. "Hey Pope! Can you step out? Work up the trailhead."

"All right. Flank right and make sure no one else is coming up below."

"I'll cut up behind you." Benny said. I grabbed Will's hand making him look at me. I reached up grabbing the back of his head and brought his lips down aggressively to mine. I kissed him passionately before pulling away.

"You come back to me." He nodded before he walked off. I watched him until he was out of my sight before I turned back around, my shoulder still throbbing.

"AJ I never told you this but you are a fucking phenomenal woman. I know we gave you a lot of shit when you first joined us and I'm sorry for being a dick you totally made any negative thought go out the window; you are the most hardworking dependable individual I've ever known. Your heart is fucking incredible. Even when we were dicks you still cared for us and tried to be friends with us. You never gave up and god knows you wanted to. We take you for granted thank you for always looking out for this team. You're the glue kid. And Will, shit he is lucky to have you, you guys are absolutely made for each other, we went through some shit and you guys managed to still come out on top." His words made me tear up as he lowered his gun hugging me.

"Thank you, just so you know you're pretty amazing yourself Tom." He smiled as we moved hearing that Pope was in place. Tom moved around me sitting down as we both saw movement up on the mountain across from us. I got a clear shot and took it before leaning back after watching the shooter's body drop.

"Nice shooting." I looked past him as we heard a rumble, his head turning at the sound, a gasp leaving my mouth. There standing on the rocks above us was the kid from the village. The one who didn't want to move from our path; with a gun in his hand. In the split second, it took Tom pushed me out of the way as the kid pulled the trigger. A scream leaving my mouth as I watched him fall over, an entry wound on the right side of his forehead. I heard shots and knew one of the guys had shot the kid as I finally moved grabbing Tom screaming. He lay there dead, his eyes wide open. The scene forever engraved in my mind, I didn't even register Will grabbing me as I cried, I was in shock. He, I, that kid was going to shot me and he pushed me out of the way.

"Let me see, let me see." Wills aid grabbing my face and checking me over, fear written all over his face. I watched as Benny sobbed over Tom's body before Will went to him and checked on him. Fish and Pope standing in shock and anguish was written all over Pope's face as reality set it. This was on him, this had been his idea and it finally got someone killed. I watched him break as he gripped his head crying.

"Fuck." He muttered. Looking to my brother in law and husband who were bent down by his body, Benny leaning over him sobbing. He looked at me sadly before he stood up, pulling me into his arms.

"Let's get him wrapped up." He spoke to everyone as he kissed my head, softly placing his calloused hands on my stomach.

"I'm okay." I whispered to him. "We need to keep moving." He said letting me sit down while he and the rest of the guys got started wrapping Tom's body. No fucking way were we leaving him here, we were getting him out of here and to his family for a proper burial.
