Tonight was cold. Colder then last night. And even colder then the night before. I was shaking so hard, and it feels like my fingers might be numb.
"You okay Soda?" Ponyboy asks me, glimpsing back at me, eyes still halfway in contact with the movie.
"Yeah, just a bit cold," I say, rubbing my arms, "Want some popcorn or somethin'?"
He shakes his head, "No."
"I'll have some," Dally says, poking his head in from behind Pony.
I wink, "Okay, but keep an eye on my lil brother."
Dally nods, "Sure thing, boss." He smirks at me, but I roll my eyes at him.
He hands me some coins, and I head to get popcorn. I fill up the cup real high, some falls out. I catch it with my hand and casually shove it in my mouth.
No good popcorn should ever go to waste. Especially not in my name.
The line's awfully long, and the girl behind me is softly breathing on my next. I would complain, but it's not her fault some Socs are beating up a greaser right behind me.
She looks like a Soc. A pretty sweater, and a cute white skirt. She has real shiny pearl earrings. She's a blondie, and her eyes are a pretty shade of green.
But dang, she caught me staring. She smiles, "Hey, I think I've heard about you. Sodapop Curtis."
I look at her, "Yeah, what's your name." I flash at smile at her. Wonder who told her my name.
"I'm Beverly Valance," She says, "I'm from the west side of town."
"Yeah, heard it's nice up there," I say, trying not to sound to jealous.
"But the east side ain't bad," She says, "The people here ain't bad."
"Yeah, like who?" I say, paying for my popcorn. I wait as she pays.
"Steve Randle. He's usually the one who helps me at the DX. He's dreamy," She says, walking off with me. We stand by some cars.
"Steve's my buddy. So I guess you know me," I say, "I never doubted it much though."
"I knew your name. What on earth do you mean?" She says, her eyes full of confusion.
"That's usually all they know," I shrug, "I don't know what I meant. I mean, you know more then the rest of them."
"Oh alright," She says, "I'll take that as your answer then."
