After replying to Mei, Angela put her phone away and sat back comfortably in the passenger's seat. Moira had insisted on driving her somewhere. When inquired about the "somewhere", Moira would merely shake her head and mutter a soft "you'll see". Angela wasn't quite in the mood for surprises. Nevertheless, she followed through with Moira's plans since it meant she could sleep more on the drive over.
"Angela..." Moira whispered, gently tapping her shoulder.
She sat up, still drowsy from the nap. Moira tried to hold back a laugh as she swept away the tendrils of hair that covered Angela's face.
"Where are we?" Angela muttered as she swatted Moira's hands away.
"Why don't you take a look for yourself?" She replied, stepping out of the car.
Angela sighed and made her way out. From what she could tell they were in a fairly wooded area. Apart from themselves, there seemed to be nobody present.
"Why are we in the forest? Have you brought me here to be murdered?" Angela spoke, still half awake.
"No, no," Moira chuckled. "If I wanted to do that, it would've happened long ago."
Angela shot a disturbed look at Moira who, in turn, gave a flirtatious wink. Simultaneously, they laughed.
Moira grabbed a bag from the trunk then grasped Angela's hand in her own. She lead the two of them through a small path in the forestry. It wasn't too long before they reached a small clearing that opened up into a lake. To the right sat a worn out bench.
"Are you serious, Moira?" Angela smiled.
She hadn't realized it at first, but this was where they had their first date.
"So, what do you think?" Moira looked at her, awaiting a response.
"Well I didn't think of you as the romantic type."
"There are many things you don't know about me, Doctor Ziegler," she gave a seductive smirk before setting her bag down onto the bench.
Inside it, she pulled out a wine bottle and a couple of glasses.
"Alcohol so early in the morning?" Angela inquired playfully.
"Would you expect anything less? That's not even the best part," she rummaged through the bag and pulled out a rectangular box.
"Are those chocolates?"
"Swiss chocolates to be precise, my dear."
"Now you're really trying to claw your way into my heart," Angela smiled as she grabbed a few from the box.
"Claw?" Moira checked out her nails. "I suppose they could use a trim."
Angela rolled her eyes and sat herself down on the bench. Based on how worn it looked, she was surprised that it hadn't just crumbled beneath her. Moira sat down beside her, and the two finished off the box.
"Angel?"
"Yes, Moira?" Her heart fluttered at the mention of her nickname.
The two sat on the bench that overlooked a sea of orange as the sun's journey around the sky came to a solemn end.
"I feel like I was born to meet you."
"Don't flatter me, doctor," Angela smiled, her heart beating a mile a minute. "This is only our first date."
"I know, I know. It's a little early. I just... can't shake this feeling."
"What feeling?" Angela whispered, looking up at her.
"That fate brought us together," Moira murmured as she too stared down at Angela.
Angela rolled her eyes in response, but still kept a bright smile.
Time seemed to almost stop as the two inched closer. With her bony fingers, Moira cupped the other woman's chin, further decreasing the space between the two. Angela closed her eyes and waited until the soft touch of the other's lips met her own.
Angela gasped as she released herself from Moira's touch.
"This really is like old times isn't it?" Moira smiled.
Angela didn't respond. She covered her mouth and stared firmly at the ground below, denying the kiss that just took place. She didn't know how or why, it just... Sort of happened.
"Is something the matter?" Moira rested her hand on the woman's thigh.
"No, it's just..." Angela pressed her palm against her forehead and gave a nervous chuckle. "Are we really doing this again?"
"The... The date?"
"No... I mean us. Are we...?"
"I mean... If you want... I..." Moira tugged at her collar nervously.
"I can't believe I'm doing this," Angela murmured as she pulled Moira's face closer and into a deep kiss.
Moira herself was shocked but didn't resist and, instead, wrapped her arms around the woman's waist, pulling her closer.
Angela paused for a moment fully realizing what she was doing. She looked to the ground, her face red and hot. Moira was amused by the woman's embarrassment. She held Angela's chin in her hand and pulled her face towards her own.
"What are you thinking about, Angel?" Moira smiled.
"Well..." She chuckled lightly. "What am I going to tell Fareeha?"
"I had forgotten about her. Let's not worry about that right now."
She planted a soft kiss atop her head before letting go. Their hands were still intertwined.
Once they reached Moira car, Angela took the lead and made her way to the driver's seat.
"Oh, what's this now?"
"It's my turn to take us somewhere," Angela smirked.
Moira smiled and tossed over the keys. They soon clambered in and drove off, their hands together the whole ride. It was a strange feeling really, for the both of them. Angela could relate this feeling back to when Moira was apologizing to her at the cafe. It was familiar and comforting, and yet, she still couldn't shake the feeling that this was somehow wrong. Even back when they first got together, Angela couldn't help but feel the same. Perhaps it was the fact that both circumstances were at the expense of dear Fareeha's feelings.
The thought of Fareeha made Angela's stomach flip.
It wasn't like they were together this time. They were just catching up over a few platonic dates. Still, Angela couldn't help but feel guilty. Fareeha's expression always brightened at the sight of the doctor, her tone always gentler, too. Angela knew that deep down Fareeha was hoping that maybe, just maybe they'd somehow work out.
For a bit there she had hoped the same.
She still had the date set up for Friday, too. It couldn't hurt to go. Eventually she and Fareeha could even be close friends again.
What if she asked her out, though? She would have to tell her about Moira.
Angela frowned, recalling the harsh tone Fareeha had used when referring to the geneticist.
Moira saw her Angel's change in expression.
"What are you thinking about?" She spoke softly, encasing Angela's one free hand in both of her own.
"It's nothing, really..."
She turned to face Moira, her strange
eyes stared lovingly back. The gentle look she received coupled with the soft touch of her hands instantly caused all of Angela's worries to fade in the present moment. She didn't need to worry about those things right now. Everything she needed was already right here.
