"Where's John?" Charles asked.
"I thought he was with Arthur" I replied, confused.
"Shall we go look for him?" Charles asked Arthur and I, Arthur waved his hand in dismissal at the question and replied:
"Nah, he'll be fine - our camp ain't far from here"

Just as Arthur left our camp, my eyes began to scour for the area for any sign of Charles. I spotted his spurs poking out from our tent just as he was entering, he seemed off. I entered the white tent to find Charles sat on the cot staring at a photo in his hands. His face drooped, in sadness I knew. I took a seat next to him and placed a hand on his shoulder in concern. He avoided my eyes and my worry only grew.
"Whats wrong?" I asked, rubbing his shoulder in a soothing manner. He cleared his throat before speaking.
"I got a letter."
"And what does it say?" I replied.
"It said that my Mother has been killed... on her reservation." He paused for a moment before continuing. "When she and her tribe were driven away, it drove my father to drink - and it had a mean hold on him. I just hope her death doesn't do the same to me" I nodded, my heart breaking at the sight of him so heart-broken. I placed my arm around his torso and placed my head on his shoulder in sympathy.
"It won't do the same t'you, I promise" I assured.
"How do you know that?" He asked in worry.
"Because I won't let it do the same to you." He smiled weakly at my words of assurance.
"My mother used to sing to me as a young child-"
"Shall I sing for ye?" I smiled up at him, he nodded and so I began singing a song that my Grandfather would sing to me to make me fall asleep when I was a young girl.

" I thought I heard the old man say:
Leave her Johnny, Leave her
Tomorrow you will get your pay,
And it's time for us to leave her.

Leave her Johnny, leave her
Oh, Leave her Johnny, Leave her
For the voyage is long and the winds won't blow
And it's time for us to leave her.

Oh, the wind was foul and the sea ran high.
Leave her, Johnny, leave her
She shipped it green and none went by.
And it's time for us to leave her.

I hate to sail on this rotten tub.
Leave her, Johnny, leave her
No grog allowed and rotten grub.
And it's time for us to leave her.

We swear by rote for want of more.
Leave her, Johnny, leave her
But now we're through so we'll go on shore.
And it's time for us to leave her."

I finished my shanty and looked to the man beside to search for his response. I grinned widely and waited for him to speak, only for him to say:
"There is something between you and I, and it is... the most beautiful thing I have ever felt." I leant my forehead against his and sighed in agreement. We sat there for a moment, enjoying our company.

I heard commotion outside, a horse out of breath and people shouting. I gave Charles a peck on the lips and apologised, I rushed outside to see what the problem was. I saw Alvor, stumbling away from his horse and exclaiming:
"They got him! They took the children!"
"What? Who took them? Whose children?" I asked, Alvor caught his breath back and took a moment to calm dowm before answering my question.
"At the reservation, the army took the Chief's children along with my son" I gasped, it was outrageous that such a thing was happening. I'd heard that, on some reservations, the Children were being sent to reform schools - to become 'civilised'. I didn't fully understand why they'd do such a thing, if anything, I should've been sent to a reform school - the way I was raised was far from Civilised. I had to take action, despite me not even being aware that Alvor had a son, I'd just have to take his word for it.
"Okay, Charles - you go up to the reservation and see how people are, try and find out who took the children too. Everyone else, get your guns and ammo - Saddle up because this is gonna be one hell of a fight. Alvor, go with Charles and help out where you can" I ordered, Alvor and Charles mounted up and trotted out of camp. Reneé and Von Cog would be guarding camp until we returned.

Once we all gathered together the weapons and horse tack, we saddled up and mounted.

We rode up to the reservation as quick as possible, I dismounted and met up with Alvor and Charles.
"The Children were taken to Fort Riggs, it's a newly set up fort and most of the guards are civilian volunteers, also the ones who took the children" Charles told me.
"Okay, how many children were taken?" I asked.
"7 Children" Alvor replied. I nodded and sighed.
"To fort Riggs, then" I mounted back up, Charles and Alvor did the same. With that note, we took off.
