DEMI'S POV:
The flight from LA to Canada wasn't too bad, if it wasn't for my sleeping mask and my seat far away from the window to avoid the views of the ocean it could've been unbearable.
Once Melody, Lauren and I were comfortable in the backseat of our Uber our driver cleared his throat, "I just want to make sure that this is correct, you ladies are heading up to Clearwater?"
Lauren nodded, "Yes sir. We rented out a lake house in Clearwater for the next two weeks. Will driving there be a problem?"
"No." The driver clarified, "It's just rare for people to willingly go up that way."
Melody shuffled around in her seat besides me, "What's so bad about Clearwater?"
The driver shook his head as put the car gear into drive, "I've just heard some crazy things that have happened over these past five years. They all sound like myths though so what do I know. I hope you ladies enjoy your time up there, it's very beautiful. Gorgeous water."
"Are you excited Mel? This has been our first big family trip in a while." I spoke as I turned towards Melody, "You and your jet lagged Mother over there must have picked a great spot."
Melody pushed a strand of her curly brown hair behind her ear before pulling her phone out of her pocket, "I really am!"
"Look at the view Momma, isn't it breathtaking? I love how all of the trees are circled around the lake perfectly." Melody scrolled through the pictures of the lake house on her phone, "Thank you for agreeing to do this for me... I know it isn't easy for you to be around water like this. I really do appreciate it."
I smiled, "I have no problem doing anything for you baby girl."
"So are you ladies taking a little girls trip up at the lake house? It sounds like it's going to be some fun girl time." The driver tried his best to start a conversation but my eye twitched just a little bit. It's 2019 and people just automatically assume that everyone is straight, it's exhausting and offensive.
Lauren immediately rolled her eyes and sighed, "We're taking a family trip. We're gay. We're married. We like vagina."
Melody bursted out laughing while I playfully smacked Lauren's arm, "You didn't have to explain it like that!" I giggled.
The driver began to chuckle as he kept his eyes on the road, "That's what I figured. Just wanted to hear one of you say it. That was a great explanation though, bravo."
〰️〰️We took a left turn exit to get off of the concrete roads and made our way down a narrow dirt road, the dirt road wasn't as steep as I thought it was going to be but the farther we drove down the more the trees around us began to cave in. Right as I was beginning to get some creepy vibes there was a light at the end of the tunnel, a bright flash of the lake.
As we exited the path we were greeted with a light tan house that was attached to a long boat dock on the water. Melody was right about how all of the trees circled the wide lake perfectly, as if they were lined up like the shape of a clock.
The driver parked the Uber by the side of the lake house, "Here it is! Do you ladies need help with taking out your bags? I don't mind."
Lauren rose her brow, "What's your name again?"
"Ross..." He responded as he ran one hand through his black hair.
I watched as Lauren opened the passenger door of the car and began to scoot out, "Well Ross I'll give you a tip if you help with our bags, you're too kind." Lauren always knew how to make simple situations awkward and hilarious at the same time, but it's turned out to be one of my favorite things about her.
I followed Lauren to the front door of the lake house while Melody helped Ross gather our bags from the Uber. "The renter said that the key to the house should be under one of the thin pieces of wood that's located to the left of the door." Lauren began to pick on this piece of wood that was already halfway sticking up, she lifted it up slowly and a small silver key slid out immediately.
Lauren gently placed the key into the door knob and twisted it, the white door immediately pushed open with a strong gust of wind that practically sucked Lauren and I inside of the house.
"Holy shit." I breathed as I gripped onto Lauren to regain my balance, "I'm guessing no one has rented this place out in a while? That was honestly insane."
"Probably." Lauren shrugged as she examined the place, "It looks super clean though. There's no cobwebs, no dust. Practically brand new!" And she was absolutely right, the furniture looked clean and well put together, the decor was cute and friendly, the carpets didn't even have a stain. The place was spotless.
Energetic footsteps made their way behind Lauren and I, "Oh wow this is nice!" Melody beamed, "I'm going to go check out the bed rooms to set my bags down!" Before I knew it she was off running up the stairs with a wide smile on her face.
Lauren spun around and threw an awkward wink at me since she could never master that skill, "I would like to hear 'My wife is amazing, thank you baby'"
I didn't hesitate to make my way over to her and wrapped my arms around her shoulders, "My wife is amazing and the best woman in the world, thank you baby." My lips passionately locked with hers.
Lauren ended the kiss with a grin, "Sex on the lake sounds like a lot of fun too."
I threw my head back with a laugh, "Maybe that'll defiantly help me conquer my fear of water."
"Oh totally, you wouldn't even care about that! You would be way too busy moaning my name with your loud ass." I watched her as she made her way towards the wooden stairs, "Lauren! Laaaauren! Oh babyyyy!" She cracked herself up as she walked up the steps.
"Oh ha! You're so fucking funny huh?" I called after her.
Suddenly there was a faint knock coming from the front door that caused Lauren and I to turn around immediately. Ross stood in the doorway with a hesitant expression on his face, "All of your bags are right here. Um... can I get my tip now? Sorry to interrupt."
10p.mSince we were all pretty jet lagged we decided to stay in the lake house tonight and start our adventuring tomorrow. Melody stayed in her room for most of the evening to un pack and get all of her stuff situation, Lauren and I pretty much did the same.
As I finished folding my last piece of clothing and placed it into one of the drawers I stood up and made my way towards the swimsuits I left in my suitcase, I couldn't decide if I should take them out and place them somewhere since I might not even really use them at all. I pushed the suitcase full of my swimsuits underneath the bed, "Hey Babe I'm putting a few of the suitcases under the bed, just a heads up. It's easier so we don't trip over anything." I said.
I ended up not getting a response and once I looked on top of the bed I knew why, Lauren was knocked out and drooling onto her pillow. I quietly laughed to myself as I pulled the string on the lamp to turn the light off, I slightly pushed Lauren over to her side of the bed and made myself comfortable on mine.
12 a.m
My body is fighting for every last bit of air as the water rushes up my nose and down my throat. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I'm wheezing now and fighting to cough up the water that's flooding my lungs, every breath I attempted to take was agonizingly painful and short.
I jumped up out of my sleep with one hand on my chest and the other wrapped around my neck, I was coughing and gagging with tears running down my face but I wasn't the only one suffering. Lauren was sat up next to me violently coughing with the same terrified expression on her face.
Once I was able to calm down and catch my breath I gently rubbed her back, "Are you okay?" I struggled to ask her, my voice was hoarse and shaky.
Lauren slowly nodded, "I am. Are you good?"
"Yeah I am... did it feel like you were drowning in your sleep?" I questioned her.
"Jesus Christ yes! I seriously thought I was dying, it felt too real." Lauren began to lay her head back down on the pillow, "What time is it?"
I quickly scanned the room to see the clock on the wall, "12 a.m"
"What the hell just happened?"〰️〰️
Thank you so much for reading! I wrote this story a while ago and it has been saved in my drafts since and I decided to finally publish it. I will be editing the drafts and posting a chapter or two weekly.
