Delilah's deep red hair was unmistakable against the late spring vegetation of the meadow. She was a gangly thing of seven and full of wild energy. Currently she was trying to hide from her brother and sister. They were in a game of hide and seek. So far her Brother Colton had won three rounds. While her sister Winnie had won two rounds. Delilah had won zero rounds and her being the youngest didn't help any. Sure it was only by ten minutes or so but it didn't matter. They always won.
There was a low playful growl and Delilah stilled her breathing tucking her head into her knees. She didn't want to be found first again. There was the sound of soft foot step and then Delilah felt her self being plucked from among her hiding place. She let out a screech of surprise and sure enough Colton had found her. He was the same age as her and yet he easily lifted her out of the vegetation. His dark eyes shone with mischief.
"Put me down," Delilah squeaked still squirming in her brothers grip. He had picked her up underneath the armpits and held in a few inches of the ground. Colton dropped her and snickered wickedly. Delilah glared at him. Winnie appeared from a behind a tree. She was slightly taller than Colton but otherwise had the same thick straight hair and dark eyes.
"So you were found first again? That means I have won three rounds total!" Winnie squeaked with childish delight. Delilah huffed and wiped the and vegetation out from her head. "Let's play again."
"I don't wanna," Delilah exclaimed shaking a tiny fist in anger.
"Awwww come on Dee this is the only day we get to play like this. Then we have to wait a whole month to play proper hide and seek," Colton said a small tear clung to his eye. He hurriedly wiped it away hoping that no one noticed. Dee had seen it and sighed heavily. He was right after today it would be a whole month before they could play hide and seek properly. Then it would be back to.... Dee shivered chase games and dog piling the last quite literally. So Delilah sucked up a breath and smiled. She loved her brother and sister dearly. If proper hide and seek made them happy then she would play.
"Okay fine but this time I want to to seek," Delilah said batting her dark green eyes almost black at her siblings.
