Three days had gone by before I talked to Savannah again, she wasn’t in school and she wouldn’t answer her phone. Until one Thursday afternoon, that I’ll never forget.

I was sitting on my bed eating a pop tart and drinking a mountain dew when I heard my phone ring. I had figured that it would be Zoe since she usually calls me in the afternoon to ask how my day was and if we wanted to do our homework together, but I was wrong. I looked at the caller ID and it read Savannah. I quickly answered and said, “Hello?” in a concerned voice. “Hey,” she answered, “I have something to tell you.” “What is it sweetheart? Are you alright?” I asked back “No, but that’s alright, I have a solution.” She said calmly “Well, what do you mean? I don’t understand.” I said back worried, this wasn’t the Savannah that I knew. “I have decided, that I am not worth it anymore, and I am going to end everything right now.” Savannah said to me. “Savannah… What are you saying?” I asked now scared out of my mind. I had an idea of what she was talking about but I wanted to be sure. “Yes, I am going to end my life. It isn’t your fault, so don’t think that it is. Don’t try to stop me either because I have my mind set.” Savannah said still sounding very calm. “Please Savannah, don’t do this, I love you, your family loves you, your friends love you, God loves you…” I said back tearing up. “I am sorry, but this is something that I have to do on my own accord. You’re a wonderful person and I know that you will have a fantastic future. I love you too but it’s my time now and I have to go.” She said. “Savannah! Wait!” I yelled into the phone but it was too late. She had taken a pill, a cyanide pill, designed to take all of the oxygen out of your cells in your body. I heard her start to cough and gag and even moan a little bit. “Savannah!” I yelled out, “Please be ok! I love you so much, I am so sorry!” I started to break down, I knew that it was inevitable, she didn’t have long and I was going to be the last person that she ever talked to. “Richard…” she said, she sounded weak and in pain, “its ok Savannah, I love you.” I said back to her hoping to make her feel better about what was about to happen. “Rich… I love you” Savannah managed to say, she sounded choked up and struggling. “Savannah please…” I said crying, “Savannah? Savannah!?” There was no response, I knew what had happened.

I ran and got my car keys as fast as I could, my eyes were so teary it made it hard for me to see. I got in my car and drove to Savannah’s house as fast as I could. Once I got there I knocked on the door because her parents’ car was home and waited for an answer. Her mother came to the door and saw me distraught, she asked what was going on and all that I managed to say was, “Savannah…”

I ran inside and went straight up to her room, I opened the door and immediately felt sick. There she was lying on her floor. Dead.
