*Anastasia’s POV*

It had been a normal, slow day. The diner had had only one customer throughout the entire day, though this was due to the cold front coming through. The radio weatherman had predicted more than 2 ft. of snow and possibility of a blizzard when night fell. Most people choose to stay home on days like these. Ana of course had to work, though she knew she’d be able to go home early due to the chance of blizzard on this night. Her mother was out of town visiting her sister in Neildon, a little town just west. Ana didn't really know for sure when her mother would be back, but she suspected within the next week or so.
After cleaning mopping the tile floor in the kitchen, Ana took off her apron and put all the cleaning supplies away. “I think that’s the last of the work for today, Audrey.”
“I think you’re right. I don’t think we’ll have any other customers on a night as cold as this one.” Audrey put away her apron as well. “You can head on home now Ana. Just be careful and stay warm tonight!”
“Alright, I’ll try my best,” Ana smiled as she slipped on her coat. “I’ll see you in the morning Aud! Goodnight Bill!” Ana called as she left the dinner.

The wind was picking up outside the diner; she hurried home as fast as she could. Running through the door, she slammed it back against the wind and rushed to get a fire going in the fireplace. As the fire began warming the little house, Ana started rummaging through the cabinets to find something to eat. ‘Mom isn't home, I won’t have to actually make anything tonight… Maybe I’ll just have some bread.’  She thought to herself. After eating and relaxing a bit, she decided to just go ahead and go to bed (there wasn’t anything else to do, after all). She pulled on her flannel night gown and drifted into a restless sleep.
