Ana worked long hours most days in the diner, and this day was no different. "This cold front has me on edge," Ana said as she finished stocking a handful of napkins in one of the dispensers. "You know, if dad were still around I wouldn't have to put up with her. Hell, I wouldn't even be in this town right now."

"You really miss him, I know. I'm sorry, Ana." Audrey paused for a moment. "You don't have to put yourself through all this stress. Working all day every day with no husband, no kids. What kind of a life is that? I know how you feel about Eric, but he's not the worst thing that could happen to you. He is a man, and he could take care of you and your mom without you needing to work all the time." Audrey studied Ana's expression a moment.

"Seriously Audrey? I've told you before, I would much rather live the rest of my life working myself to the bone than be married to Eric. What a nightmare."

Audrey couldn't help but smile. "No, I guess I wasn't serious, but I would like to see you, just once, enter through those doors one morning smiling and say to me 'Good morning, Audrey!' I'd like to see you happy again. Like you were before your dad died."

"Yeah... But Eric is not the key to my happiness."
