First time meeting him.
You ran up to him after seeing him fall and helped him up. You helped him dust himself off and asked if he was alright. You got a nod in return and an embarrassed chuckle before you ran off again waving at him after hearing your mom call you for dinner.
Your second encounter was when he actually stood up for you after kids were teasing you on the colour of your hair which was very much like your mothers only slightly lighter. You thanked him, which earned you a grunt and a nod.
After this random encounters would be silent smiles and nods to one another. Not quite your style but you understood that not everyone was as loud as you.
You sat behind him at school and during lunch would exchange small talk which you always appreciated.
Until his father died and he didn't come to school. Your heart sank when you heard the news from your teacher.
You tried going round to his place but he didn't open the door even though you heard he was home. It was pretty obvious he didn't want to see anyone. But your worry grew. So you ended up going round every day. Placing food in front of the door and ran off. You watched in the distance as he'd open the door slowly, look at the food and close the door again. Leaving the food untouched. You decided to keep leaving food in front of his door but this time leaving notes, too. Just small ones like, "morning! I hope you like blue grapes. I also have green ones if you like!" or "Morning! So we're at chapter 6 now with biology! You should come before you miss the best bits!" You'd continue this until you noticed the food was gone and he started placing empty baskets in front of his door. The even wrote a note saying he preferred the green grapes.
One day you came to school and he was sitting at his desk. Some kids were whispering and looking worried. Clearly this annoyed him. So you walked in like nothing ever happened. You gave him a bright smile while walking to your seat and gave him a cheerful "Good morning!" Glaring at the kids once you were behind him making them all go back to normal.
You never spoke many words to one another but you always made sure he knew he wasn't alone. You'd invite him for play dates or doing homework together with Rin. At first he got annoyed at you always being there until finally...
"Why do you keep doing this..." You were walking behind Kakashi who was on his way home. Clearly walking faster while you tried to catch up. But he stopped dead in his tracks and had an annoyed expression on his face. You worriedly took a small step back before regaining your posture. "Well... I just wanted to m-" you stopped when you saw him turn on his heels to look at you. His hands balled in fists. "I don't need your help OR your pitty Yumi!" You exhaled after realizing you were holding your breath. "Kakashi... I-"
"Just leave me alone and stop following me!" He turned to leave but was stopped by a hand grabbing his arm. He turned his head, ready to snap but his face soon changed after seeing you. Your bangs covering your eyes, body shaking slightly. "Why are you so against the idea of a friend wanting to help out... Why are you pushing everyone away? I will NOT let you rot away in your dark room again and wonder when your last meal was. I understand how you feel but I j-"
"YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW I FEEL!" Kakashi yelled and he felt your grip tighten. You then let go of his arm and watched it fall to his side. He was right. Your life was great up until now. Your parents were hard working loving people. And they were there. You looked down, biting your lip to stop try and stop the tears. Many words were racing through your mind but all that came out was a whispered "I'm sorry... " before he ran off. You didn't see each other for a week after that until finally, he opened the door to see a basket full of green grapes and food with a note.
The same routine of ignoring the food happened until he finally opened the door, expecting either a basket or bento box, but instead was surprised with you standing there. Bento box in hand. You bowed down low, stretching out your arms for him to grab the food. When he did you continued to bow and apologize. You half expected him to close the door in front of you. Instead you heard him place the bento box on the ground and come closer. Your eyes widened when you felt him hug you. His body started shaking and you heard him sobbing. "I'm here..." You stroked his head until you finally felt him calm down. You took him inside and sat him down. Looking around the apartment you sighed. Dark and messy was an understatement. You went over to the kitchen and started making tea. "I'm gonna come over with my mom tomorrow." You said handing him a hot cup of soothing tea. He took it and just simply nodded.
He went back to school after that.
