"How old were you when she left"? I asked.
He shrugged his shoulders and took a big spoon full of icecream we had went to get. We decided to sit in the car outside of the gas station.
"I was only fifteen. She was twenty. She was going to school at the time and was always busy. Once she started really dating I never seen her. One day she came home, packed her things up and left". He said.
I watched the sadness in his eyes as he spoke. The only loss I had experienced was my granddad. But for Harry it wasnt death. It was neglect.
"What about your gang. When did you join that"? I asked.
He took another big spoon of icecream and sighed.
"I turned sixteen. I snuck into some bar to see if I could get some drinks. Some guy walked up to me and asked if I was over the age. Being from London age restrictions were different. When I said sixteen he pulled me aside and introduced me". He said.
"I met Louis in a cell down a in correction facility. He was charged with setting a house on fire, I was charged with assault and battery. Once we were out I met Eleanor and his family. Louis dad was the guy I met at the bar ". He said.
Things started making sense now. I mean you see a frightened teen on the streets and you take them in to be a gang.
"After your dad passed, did your mother try to contact you"? I asked.
He shook his head and turned to me. He placed the icecream on the dash and held my hands.
"When my dad died, my mother took everything we had and ran off, leaving Gemma and I to defend for ourselves. When he died, Gemma found out I went to the bar almost every night. I told her it was for answers but deep down it was because I missed the sick bastard". He smiled looking down to me.
I placed my lips to his knuckles and laid my head on his shoulder. I loved this new side of us. We were actually communicating.
"I think we should get back. It's almost four". He chuckled.
I nodded and sat up and clipped my seatbelts on. He looked at me and chuckled before starting the car and heading back.
I felt so bad for him. He actually had nobody. Even if he would get in contact, nobody would care. I believed Harry had a heart and underneath the hard shell he grown for himself, there was a little boy who wanted to be loved. As we pulled into the driveway the only thing I thought about was sleep. After that nightmare I've been a bit off. When I tried to get out Harry pulled me back to him.
"Harry, now isnt the time to make out. I'm tired". I giggled but his facial expression showed fear.
"What is it"? I asked.
He didn't answer me and pulled out of the driveway. Both hands clenched the wheel and he was speeding down the highway.
"Harry what's going on"? I asked holding onto the door.
"Were being followed. Just grab me my phone". He said sitting up in his seat.
I leaned over and grabbed it out of his back pocket and handed it to him. He quickly typed a number in and placed it against his ear.
"He's following us. Were headed North past the city". He said.
Wait? Who was following us?
"DON'T YOU THINK I KNEW THAT BY NOW. FUCKING TRACK THE BASTARD"! Harry yelled.
I clenched my seatbelt as he sped around the neighborhood outside of the city. Blowing stop signs left and right.
"Harry". I asked as he threw the phone away from his ear.
"Not now". He said.
We pulled into a small parking lot where the bus garage was. He sighed and hit his hands off the wheel. I didnt want to say anything, well anything else to piss him off more. He got out of the car and kicked the side of it. All I did was wait. I checked around and seen nothing. Not one single car on the road. We must of lost whoever it was. I glanced back over to Harry and he was sitting on the ground. I couldnt take it anymore and got out. I walked over to him and his face showed anger.
"Get in the car now"! He demanded but I stood my ground.
"No. You will fucking talk to me Harry or so help me God I'll leave now". I threatened.
His eyes went soft and his fist balled. I truly meant every word. We promised commitment and loyalty. Not lying and hurtful thoughts or words. But clearly we were back to disappoint.
"Kate please. This is my way of protecting you. Please get back in the car". He said and I became stubborn.
"Tell me". I said grinding my teeth.
He pulled at his hair and walked over to me, pushing me up against the car. His hands squeezing my arms.
"Harry you're hurting me". I cried and he quickly let go.
"Im sorry. Just get back to the car. Please". He said looking down.
He walked off and kicked the dirt on the ground. He was pacing back and forth mumbling. I cant do this right now. Knowing I would have bruises forming. I walked back over to the car and got in, checking the visible marks. I didnt want to look at him. Or even talk to him now. I searched around for his keys but sighed when he had them. I spotted his cigarettes in the cup holder and grabbed one out. I wasnt going to smoke it. I was going to give it to him. Not sure why I was even trying to be nice but screw it. I got out of the car a few moments later and walked up to him. He wasn't facing me, his head was in his hands. I leaned over and placed the cigarette between his legs and the lighter next to it. Without anything to say I walked back over to the car and sat down against the tire. This was his time to settle down. Once he does he needs to tell me what the hell was happening.
Who was following us?
Why were they following us?
Are they after me or Harry? These are the questions that keep me up at night. But I guess you get things like that when your dating someone who is in a gang and tells you nothing.
Commitment right. HA! wrong...
