The four had arrived at Dave n' Busters after 10 minutes of chatter. Rafe had exited the car first, opening the door and holding it open for Katelyn.
"Thanks dork."
"Yeah no problem."
"Come on, Georgia. We gotta play until we drop!" Katelyn exclaimed, dragging the little girl towards the building.
"Hey, wait up!" Rafe yelled and walked faster, hoping to catch up to the girls.
"Haha slowpoke."
The group then entered the arcade, and spread out. Katelyn and Rafe stuck together, of course, while Carl and Georgia went their separate ways.
"Hey, Rafe. Let's check this game out!" said Katelyn, grabbing Rafe's arm.
"It doesn't seem like I have much of a choice."
Katelyn rolled her eyes and continued dragging the boy until they had gotten to their destination, Dance Dance Revolution. Fortunately, there wasn't a lot of people waiting in line, so the pair took their spot at the end of the line.
"Please come to the lobby, we're going to be announcing ticket winners soon. The ticket winners will be announced in five minutes." said the lady on the intercom. People started to get up from their seats and started bustling and shuffling around to get to the lobby.
Unfortunately, the DDR machine was right next to the lobby, so the line was shifted towards the wall so the other customers could have more room to participate.
"Oh my god, there's so many people here." Katelyn complained, leaning against the wall.
"Yeah I know. I never expected this many people to go to a ticket raffle." responded Rafe, standing in front of the girl.
"I wonder what the prize is."
"I wonder when we can play the game."
Katelyn giggled and watched as Rafe ran his hand through his hair. Suddenly, the boy was shoved forward from a desperate customer who stood behind him. Rafe's eyes widened as he fell towards the girl. Katelyn shut her eyes and prepared for the impact, but it never came. She opened her eyes to see Rafe's face extremely close to her own. His hands were on either side of her head. Heat filled both of their cheeks quickly.
Is this what kabedon feels like? Katelyn thought, blushing profusely.
"S-sorry. I got shoved from behind." Rafe squeaked, embarrassed.
"I-it's fine." Katelyn blushed and moved a lock of hair behind her ears, not meeting Rafe's eyes.
She looks cute when she's embarrassed, Rafe thought.
After a few minutes of waiting, they noticed that the line for DDR had not moved at all.
"Maybe we should go back to the table." Katelyn suggested.
"Yeah. We probably should."
The two walked through the big crowd back to their table, and found Carl there, munching on some mozzarella sticks. Rafe and Katelyn took a seat next to each other. Rafe grabbed a spare napkin and a pen from his pocket, and started drawing. Georgia soon arrived and sat on the last chair. Carl observed the younger girl before picking up his new toy.
"I can tell you want my '65 Shelby Cobra, but guess what? It's mine. I won it." Carl said with an arrogant laugh.
"No, I won it. And then you took it." Georgia replied sassily.
"No. You won it with my money. So technically, it's mine. Plus, I beat you at Speed of Light. Boo-yah!" Carl countered.
"Hey look! It's a talking bear!" Georgia said sarcastically, nudging Katelyn's shoulder.
"Why do you insist on calling me that? You know my name is Carl. Carl." Bear said, holding another mozzarella stick in his hand.
"Well, A, 'Carl' rhymes with 'snarl', which is something bears do. And, B, you're, like, abnormally hairy."
Katelyn stifled a laugh and turned to see what Rafe was drawing. A bear. How fitting.
"Just hurry it up, all right? Game of Thrones starts in 10 minutes. And if I miss the recap, I'm totally screwed."
"Wait, but we haven't even had dessert yet. That's the best part!" Georgia complained.
"You better change your mindset on this whole dessert thing, all right? Or you're gonna end up as fat as your dog. That's probably why you're so farty."
"You're face is farty. And Calvin Giggles is just big-boned."
"Just chew so we can get out of here, huh?" Bear said, desperate to head home.
"Hi, folks, I'm Dana. I'll be taking over for Sandy. Her shift just ended. Would you like me to bring the check?" said the waitress who came up.
Katelyn noticed the way Bear's eyes widened when he saw the woman.
"No."
"Yes."
"I thought you were in a hurry." Rafe said, finally looking up from his drawing.
Bear chuckled, "Yeah. A hurry to get you adorable kids the best dessert Dave and Busters has to offer, huh? Got my friend's kids and his girlfriend with me today."
"We're not dating." Rafe said, without lifting his head.
A pang of hurt quickly ran through Katelyn's body, but she brushed it off quickly.
Katelyn quietly groaned, watching the man flirt with the waitress.
"Did you just say your 'friend's kids'?" Georgia asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Tell you what. Just get whatever you guys want for dessert, all right? Provided it's not caviar, huh?" Bear quickly said, elbowing the waitress slightly and winked.
Katelyn cringed and leaned over towards Georgia.
"Does he normally do that?"
"Yeah. It's disgusting."
"Agreed. You, my friend, have excellent taste."
"I'll go grab the dessert menus." Dana said and walked away,
"All right! Dessert. She's gonna grab the dessert menus. All right, here's the deal." Bear paused to wipe his mouth with the napkin Rafe was drawing on. Rafe looked up in disgust.
"I am gonna go take a dump."
"Ew."
"Don't screw anything up, all right?"
Bear stood up and walked away to the restroom.
Rafe rolled his eyes and continued drawing.
"That looks really cool Rafe." Katelyn said, observing the drawing.
"Thanks." Rafe replied, blushing slightly.
Katelyn then grabbed some fries off of Rafe's plate and shoved them in her mouth, hoping the artist wouldn't notice.
"I saw that Kate."
"Dang it."
"Katie! Let's go play some more games!" Georgia said, tugging at the older girl's arm.
"Of course Georgia. Ooh let's go play this shooting game I saw earlier." Katelyn answered, and slid off the stool.
"Rafe you coming?" Katelyn asked.
"Uhh later. You guys go ahead, I'll catch up with you guys soon." said Rafe, not looking up.
"Okay. See you later then dork."
Rafe smiled.
"See you."
