Blackish purple paint is about an inch from connecting with my nose.
"Close enough to the window, Dev?"
I lean back just to get some more black paint on my brush.
"I'm trying to paint the legs on this stupid bird. I need to get close to pay attention to detail."
"They are black blobs in the shape of birds! How perfect do they need to get?"
I ignore Katie's comment as she unzips her plastic bag, extracting her pallet. Once she gets to the details on her acrylic paint project, she will be doing the same thing.
"So how did it go with Alex? Did you ask him yet? I saw you two walking during free period. What was that about?"
"Once question at a time."
"Answer them in order."
I roll my eyes, standing up from my hunched position.
"I need to pee first. Do you have a hall pass?"
Without words, she pulls her planner out of her stack of books, handing it to me.
"Tell me when you get back."
I fill in all of the information except for the teacher's signature before approaching Mrs. Phillips. She is editing a photo of the newest edition to her family when I interrupt her.
"Can I go to the lav?"
She signs the pass before I can finish my sentence and I'm off on my way to relieve my bladder.
