"Alright, I'll do it. But I'm doing it for my father. Not you, not Thorin, not even me. I'm doing this because it's what he would have wanted."

Gandalf smiled at me.

"That is all I ask of you." I looked up to the sky. It was light out now.

"We must begin riding now if we are to reach the Shire soon. We are meeting the company there tomorrow so I suggest you figure out a way to hide your ears. " Gandalf instructs. He whistles loudly and two horses appear out of the tree line. One was white as snow and the other was black as night. I hopped on the black one and followed Gandalf into the forest. As we rode I began to think.

My mixed lineage is both a blessing and a curse. I get strength and a fiery temper from my dwarvish side. I get enhanced senses, immortality and a little bit of magic from my elvish side. Using the magic I can change my size to hide my identity. I also get a little healing magic but nothing compared to a full blooded elf. We walk all through the day and a good part of the night before finally stopping to make camp. Gandalf sits on a rock, smoking his pipe thinking about things that he doesn't expect anyone to understand, as I go of to change. After standing behind a large tree I begin to chant, "Valar, protect me. Change my size and disguise me from those who seek to do me harm." I shrink down to dwarf size and make my way back to the camp after changing into a dwarf sized version of my other clothes.

When I get back to the camp I told my clothes, stuff them into my bag and begin braiding my hair in a way that will hide my ears. Gandalf finally breaks out of his trance and smiles at me.

"Tomorrow we leave at first light do get some sleep." I nod and lie down, using my bag as a pillow and my cloak as a blanket. I listen to the sounds of the forest that have accompanied me for so many years as I drift off into the abyss.

The next morning comes far to fast for my liking , as I slowly blink back into consciousness. By the time I was aware of my surroundings I realized that Gandalf had left. Curse him.

"Gandalf? GANDALF?!?" I was becoming worried. I'm alone in the forests of Rivendell with no knowledge on how to get out. Gandalf was supposed to accompany me to the meeting..........unless it was some cruel joke. I wouldn't put it past him.

Suddenly I hear rustling in the bushes behind me. I slowly grab the bow I always keep loaded nest to me and turn around. I pulled back the arrow and just as I was about to release it, two dwarves came through the tree line. They were both rather young to be a part of the company so what were they doing west of the Misty Mountains?

"Who are you?" I question cautiously. They both sweep into bows before introducing themselves.

"Kili and Fili at your service."
