"Kennedy, don't stay on your phone for too long."
"I won't." I tell Ms. Lindstrom, sighing while I put down my phone. "Breakfast?"
She nods. "Come on, don't be too lazy."
Ms. Lindstrom was the only person who was sympathetic for me and stood up for me.
Everybody else just threw me away like a piece of garbage.
I get out of my bed, rushing to the canteen, making sure not to be late, for the other workers would yell at me if I got there late.
"Rachel," Ms. Lindstrom adds, making me worry. "Eat today; don't starve again."
"I won't." Rachel says, rushing up to me. "How are you?"
I shrug. "Same as yesterday," I tell her, shaking my head.
"You didn't cut yourself yesterday, did you?"
I rub my neck.
"Kennedy, answer my quedtion."
"I- I didn't."
"I'm not taking that as an answer."
I sigh, dropping my arm. "So what if I did? There's nothing you can do about it."
"You need to get help." She looked at me, her eyebrows lowered as she frowned.
"I could say the same about you, you've been starving yourself for the last week."
She sighs. "I'll get help as soon as I get out of here."
I rub my arms. "What if you don't get out of here?"
I grab my breakfast, sitting down at a table. "There's a psychologist here, she'll help you."
"I don't want her help."
I sigh, eating my breakfast.
After this, however, I went to school, which I had not thought about.
This was where the bullies lay.
I kept my head down, walking to my locker.
When I got to my locker, Christina came over, her heels clicking against the tile floor.
"Well, if it isn't miss Kennedy and her ego?"
I grabbed my books, rushing into class.
I had no friends at school, nor did anybody like me.
Even though nobody trusted Christina, they didn't trust me either, which is how Christina got the whole school to believe her nasty rumors.
After school, I went back to the orphanage where Mrs. Kenningburg announced that there was an adoption process;somebody had placed an adoption online and had already payed, waiting to meet their child.
I sighed, grabbing my phone as I rushed to my room.Alyx's p.o.v
I smiled as I walked into the orphanage, looking for the girl I had seen online.
She wasn't by the office, so I went to one of the workers.
"Hey, do you know where Lyla Stellingberg is?"
"She's in her room, the first room on the right."
"Thank you," I told her, rushing towards the room.
It was there that I saw another girl, one whom I had not seen on the website.
I looked through all of the orphans who lived here a few weeks ago, and not once did I see this girl.
"Hello," I said, looking at the girl.
She looked up from her phone in shock. "Hi," She whispered, shaking.
"Do you know where Lyla is?"
I thought that I had just missed this girl, so I thought nothing of it.
"U- uh, yeah. S- she's in the bathroom." I took a deep breath, sitting down next to her.
It wouldn't hurt to ask her, would it?
"Hey, I didn't see you on the website. Were you on there?"
She sighs. "No," She says, rubbing her neck.
"Why not?"
She shrugs, playing with her long, curly hair.
"I'd love to get to know you," I smiled at her. "What's your name?"
"Kennedy," She states.
"How old are you?"
"I'm twelve, I'm in sixth grade,"
"How long have you been here?"
She shrugs. "My whole life, my mom was a single mother and passed away during childbirth,"
"Oh, I'm so sorry,"
"It's fine, really,"
"Have you ever been adopted?"
She nods. "Plenty of times, they've all returned me,"
I stand up, walking to the office.
"Yes, ma'am?"
"I want to adopt Kennedy." I tell her, smiling.
"Oh, you don't want her," She informs me, the tension rising.
"Why?"
"She's too much of a handful, you're too young to tane care of her,"
"I'm sure I can take care of her,"
Why the hell was this woman so against me adopting Kennedy?
"Don't be surprised if you have to return her,"
I sign paperwork before I go home, waiting for the adoption to be confirmed.
As soon as I got home, Jenn was recording a video.
I snuck past her, silently closing the door.
"Hey, Alyx," She chuckles. "I was actually going to record this video with you," She smiles.
I rub my neck, walking over. "Alright,"
"Where were you?"
"I was at the orphanage,"
"I forgot about that,"Kennedy's p.o.v
I was in shock.
I just met Alyx Weiss.
I had watched her for a year at this point, and I never thought this would happen.
I couldn't sleep that night, I was just drowning in my thoughts.
Then it approached me;she'd never adopt a piece of shit like me.
I went into the bathroom, sitting on the toilet lid as I grabbed the blade, gently pressing it onto my skin.
I met Alyx Weiss, and I messed it up.
What the hell is wrong with me?
I was too shy when I met her, I should've been prepared.
I put the blade back into the cabinet, laying back down.
As I woke up, I heard footsteps coming towards my room.
Fuck, this was it. I was done for.
Then Ms. Lindstrom gently opens the door.
I rub my eyes, looking up.
Alyx is back.
I sit up, sighing.
"Kennedy, we have some exciting news for you," Ms. Lindstrom smiles.
I groan.
"Ms. Weiss is adopting you,"
