"Love, honestly, this is a bad idea... Persephone, please..."
My wife walks ahead of me, the sound of her high heels echoes loudly while we move through the throne room and is telling me that she's furious and won't accept no for an answer. I tried to explain her why she wasn't going to like how this meeting is going to end while we were having dinner at the terrace but she refused to talk about it and, even if she let me hug her in our bed, she fell asleep with her back to me. She begged me to take her to where her grandparents are again and again while we were having breakfast this morning but I said no, of course, and she left the table without eating before getting into her closet and locking the door. I ordered the shadows to get rid of the trays of food when her tea got cold in the cup and I realized she wasn't coming back... I suddenly remembered all the times we fought in the past and how she used to give the silent treatment for days, I was about getting up in order to leave the room when the closet door opened violently and I knew I was in deep trouble.
The Queen of the Underworld, Goddess of Spring, was in front of me staring at me with arrogance, wearing a stunning white silk dress embroidered in silver thread with floral patterns that sparkled in the light but not as much as her flawless and pale skin poking out the very low neckline, like her flesh was made of pearls. The cape attached to her shoulders ended in a long train that swept the floor majestically when she walked by my side without bothering to look at me, keeping her chin up. The silver and diamond tiara that embellished her beautiful honey-coloured hair almost blinded me when she got closer to the window before opening the door and walking to the corridor. I rush to follow her waving my hand in order to change my clothes for a black formal suit and my gold and black diamond crown; if we were going to do this her way, we'd better look the best we could.
"Babe, please... I beg you..." Iselen keeps walking determined, crossing the yard where the three judges are staring at us shocked but they don't dare to say a word when they notice that the queen, my wife, is frowning furiously. Eaco shrugs and looks at me with pity in his eyes when I gesture at them helplessly before running behind her again. Persephone has reached the Asphodel Meadows and shadows bow and curtsy respectfully while she takes a look around, hesitating for the first time, before turning around and staring at me clenching her jaw.
"My grandparents were good people that never hurt a fly, but I can't say they were heroes actually, so I guess they're here and not in the Elysian Fields. What should I do now? Will they come if I call them? Just like that?" I cross my arms over my chest and purse my lips to show her I'm not giving her any clues. "They'll come, I'm the queen and they have to obey me..." she mumbles trying to convince herself of what she's saying. She takes a deep breath and closes her eyes to focus on, minutes tick by and shadows move arounds us between the white flowers. I shake my head frustrated because she's so stubborn... Calling one specific shadow among millions wandering around the underworld is not that easy, it takes practice, lot of power and...
"Fuck!" I whisper when an old couple gets closer slowly: she's managed to summon her grandparents... The goddess inside her is stronger than I thought and, despite I'm really worried about this experiment, I can't help feeling proud.
