"What do you think?" I ask while turning around slowly. Iselen stares at me hesitating while Rada and Mina clap their hands enthusiastically and Eaco shrugs from the door.
"It's a... weird outfit... but it works and looks good on you. Although you'd look good even wearing a potato bag, of course." I move a step so I can check my reflection in the dressing room mirror and confirm she's right: a white tunic with black boots and a red bra aren't things my fans are used to see me wearing but it was Mina's idea to pay tribute to my Greek heritage and this is the subtlest way to do it without wearing a costume of Olympian goddess. Anyway, I'm only wearing it for some minutes: I'll jump to the stage, present the award and then we'll go out for dinner after dodging some fans and paparazzi that are waiting for us.
It was easy convincing my wife to come with me to the human world although her excitement cooled down a little when she found out that it was just for one day and that we'd be in Europe, Milan to be precise, so she wouldn't be able to visit her greenhouses. At least she felt better when she phoned them and her employees assured her that they were already planting daffodils, hyacinths and bluebells and also her mother wasn't causing trouble... they didn't tell her why and I didn't explain that the person in charge to give her food and clean clothes also hands her a bottle of liquor: keeping Demetria drunk is the best way to keep her calmed. It's pretty clear that she was dying to leave the Hades despite she's only spent six days down there and two of them in bed with me...
I can't help smiling like an idiot while I wait my turn to go on stage, everybody is running from here to there around me: guests, cameramen, makeup artists, the director... but I remain calmed leaned on a column in the midst of chaos while remembering the most wonderful days of my existence as queen of the underworld. Iselen was so incredibly sweet, but bold and curious at the same time, and her hands and lips over my skin almost caused me some chained heart attacks...
"Are you sure we can do this?"
"This is my kingdom and I can do whatever I want here... even foreclosing access to one area of the Elysian Fields."
"Yes but someone could see us and..."
"No honey, I promise. I've sent all the shadows to the other side of the Hades and no other god or immortal creature can cross the magic barrier without my permission. We're alone... come here... water feels so good." Iselen drops her towel and takes my hand to keep balance while climbing down two steps and then sighs satisfied. I didn't lie to her: the thermal water pool keeps the perfect temperature always, it's surrounded by big stones where we left our clothes and lush vegetation hides us from prying eyes.
"Wow, this is amazing..." I smile while hugging her and forcing her to sit down on a ledge that works as a bench: I haven't been able to keep my hands off her in two days, I even gave her dinner with my own fingers because I didn't let her leave our bed. Spring has arrived to the underworld and the forest is green again, flowers scent the air making Cerberus sneeze and birds, butterflies and bees have come back to the Elysian Fields. My kingdom doesn't threaten with falling apart anymore and, as a consequence, things go better on the surface and even in Olympus: there're less arguments amongst gods and less storms, hurricanes and earthquakes. Persephone looks more beautiful than ever before and I feel like I must fall on my knees and thank the universe. "Ruby..." I smile amused, my wife is used to call me Hades by now but for some reason she likes my human name when we're having an intimate moment. I don't care, she knows perfectly who I am finally and can call me whatever she wants although my favourite is 'oh goddess' when she's melting under my lips.
"Yes, love?"
"Could you hand me that small towel?" she points with her chin behind me.
