Chapter 2: Family Reunion

We were on our way to Leviathan.

After receiving the news about Trina, the first hummingbird, and the possibility that she might still be alive, my father, Commander Satchel of the Sous L'eau Agency, deliberately dismissed his agents—Tristan and me—or rather, granted us mandatory leave. He insisted that we needed time. Time to process the unexpected revelation, and enough rest to clear our minds, ensuring we were fully prepared for the complicated missions ahead.

But after witnessing Ahmed's reaction—a newly hired agent who knew Trina Montgomery better than anyone—how could we possibly find peace of mind? His response was crystal clear. Something about this revelation shook him to the core, and that only made it harder for the rest of us to ignore the weight of what we'd just learned.

Even miles away from headquarters, the video lingered in my thoughts. If Trina Montgomery—the first hummingbird—is still alive, then who helped her? Where had she been all these years? Who sent the video? What if it was just a trap?

I knew that it was just my father who could help her during her time as a hummingbird, now that my father was as surprised as I was, I couldn't help but think of someone who also had the power to help her.

I sighed.

"What do you think about the message, Tristan? Do you think it was fake?"

"It could be," he shortly replied.

"But Commander Satchel told us that the autopsy years ago confirmed it was Trina Montgomery's body, and she died by suicide. But we all know other agencies were interested in the Hummingbird's abilities—what if one of those secret agencies had something to do with her death because she refused to join them?"

I grimaced, thinking about how these agencies might have outsmarted my father. If both the local authorities and Sous L'eau's investigations reached the same conclusion all those years ago, but Trina's really alive, then who was powerful enough to act right under my father's nose?

Tristan didn't answer, but I saw he tightened his grip on the steering wheel.

I was getting nervous. But this vacation was an order.

Kung totoong si Trina Montgomery nga iyon, how could we consider this message? Was it good news because she was alive, or a threat?

"I died once, Lina. It was clean," sabi ni Tristan na akala ko ay hindi na sasagot sa akin.

He was right. Everything was clean in his fake death. I thought it was impossible, but here he was, driving our car to Leviathan.

Nagsisimula nang sumakit ang ulo ko. Inihilig ko na iyon sa bintana. If these people were successful to cover up the Hummingbird's death years ago...

"If she's really alive, then they're powerful—and confident enough to stir chaos within our agency, with their idea that we have the current Hummingbird. I'd say they're skilled enough to erase all traces of her, so much so that even Sous L'eau didn't notice until now—with motives we still don't understand."

"A bigger enemy then."

"I told you, Lina. I can handle everything. Cut your wings. Please give up that title. Hindi biro ang pangalang dinadala mo." Hindi lang iilang beses ko nang narinig ito kay Tristan.
