"Help me! My family, my family has been murdered..My sister..oh God, my sister is missing."
"Hello sir! May I know what exactly happened?"
I didn't know what to speak. What to say. I have never talked to any police before.
I took a deep breath.
Come on, Hunter. Dad has taught you this.
Dad had taught me this.
"I am Hunter Garcia. I am at my house at House 5, 5th Street, Elle Avenue. My sister is missing."
That should be enough. This ought to be enough.
"Hunter, how old are you?"
This is fucking irritating me. Doesn't she understand anything. But she continued,
"Police is on their way, Hunter. How old are you? Is any adult around?"
That's when I cracked. I started lamenting. I leaned to the pillar and vomited straight into flower pot my mom grew with so much love.
I didn't give heed to the lady on the phone. She kept blabbering in the background.
After few minutes, I calmed down supported by the pillar, I slid down on the floor. I still didn't want to talk to the police lady.
The loud of sirens gave me solace and at the same time made me so restlessness.
The understanding of the seriousness of the situation dawned to me.
Is my sister kidnapped? Who hates us this much to kill.
Then like the flicker of light in pit darkness, I remembered Hayden.
As I was looking for the phone on the floor, multiple footsteps took my attention.
The officers are here.
One of being my dad's friend, Mr. Lockhart.
I scrambled and struggled to get up. But finally I did, and threw myself to his waiting arms.
"Tyson, they are gone"
I muffled on his shirt, staining it with tears all the same.
He patted my back awkwardly. Even though I was close to him, I have never hugged this guy. Inspite him being one of my favorite person.
Apparently the old man was clueless as well.
"Don't worry Hunter, we will find her."
And I believed him.
The cops swarmed around the house in no time. I was told to stay out of the house. Something about crime scene contamination.
The house was closed in with a crime scene tape and I could see some reporters arriving.
Finally a news exclusive to Winterwale, huh.
How can I be so insensitive?
Maybe this is all a shock.
With wonder I noticed a little of all the cops and what they were doing. They have given me a blanket.
Then I remembered Hayden. Tyson who was around me all the time, maybe waiting for me to burst out told me he would take care of it.
The police had tapped the phones in the house.
They thought, if it is a work of kidnappers, they would call.
But where was the money, I didn't know and I was sure neither did Hayden.
Then came the murder of my parents. Thinking of the gruesome scene made me want to vomit all over again.
I also thought in this murder scene, Hayden and I would be a suspect too.
This is all so messed up. I want Mia.
It was 11 when Hayden pulled up. His eyes were all blood red indicating the lack of sleep he had.
He tried to run into the house, but Tyson saw him and caught him before he could do that.
I was able to see them, he wasn't. He will turn this to competition too, I knew it.
He started crying on Tyson's shoulder just like I did.
And at that moment, I realized we are orphans now.
And it hit me hard. All the memories in haze came to me. The awkward Christmases, the weird New years.
When Hayden was done, he came to the back of jeep where I was sitting.
We sat there in silence for a minute,
"Did they find her?"
"No"
He nodded a little and hid himself from the world by rubbing his face with palms.
With determination I said,
"We should go and get her back somehow and kill those bastards who did this"
"Let the police do their job, Hunter. Let them do it"
It irritated me somehow. I know he wasn't close to our family, in truth, one of us were close to any of us technically but we were a family.
But I changed the topic for his sake.
"Where were you last night? "
He didn't show his face and didn't move a little.
I was expecting him to give an answer but after some seconds, he got up patted my back and went to the direction where Tyson was talking to other officers without giving a backward glance.
Tyson put a arm around him and continued the conversation.
At 12 noon, Hayden was no where to be found and I was still seated on the seat. Tyson had brought me a juice. Maybe his share of food but I shook my head.
This stomach can't digest any food.
He was going to say something when his phone rang. After seeing the number he moved a further making him inaudible.
I really wanted to know what is happening and where my sister is.
At that point I realized what I wanted to be.
Police officer.
Tyson came back rubbing his forehead.
He stood before me. This angle of his vision was making me uncomfortable.
But nothing could have made me more uncomfortable than what he said,
"We found your sister, Hunter."
Isn't it supposed to be a good news?
