Aaron's slim fingers played with the knobs of the radio, the volume increasing and decreasing along with the indecisive choice of songs that played on the radio station. Two hours into the ride and everyone is knocked out in the car. With coffee and the constant changing of the music, Johanna is alert and aware of her surroundings on the empty road. Aaron, obviously bored with no WiFi in the car, resorted to being the designated DJ on the road trip.
Johanna's eyebrows crinkled together in frustration, and took deep breaths to calm down. She reached for a sip of her coffee, two creams, one sugar, two pumps of hazelnut syrup. Snapping out on Aaron won't do help, especially with the caffeine pumping in her blood. Coffee was Johanna's last resort. While sweets got her sugar-crazed, coffee strangely had the same effect on Johanna.
After going through all the stations thrice, Johanna turned off the radio, reached for the glove compartment, and pulled out a leather album. The album was thrown to Aaron's lap. Aaron flinched, afraid that Johanna had finally snapped and wanted to push him out of the car. After making sure that she wouldn't rip off his head, he carefully opened the leather casing holding the variety of CD's inside. He was surprised by the different selections of CD's that were inside. Queen, Led Zeppelin, Fall Out Boy, Beyonce, and Birdy were a select few. The first CD was chosen, R U Mine? playing gently through the speakers. Approving his choice, Johanna's head bobbed to the beat and quietly sang words.
Aaron reclined the seat back slightly, closing his eyes and listened to the music. A couple minutes passed, and since sleep was no longer an option for him, he turned on his side facing the drivers seat. He let his eyes wander. Her clothing selection impressed him. How she managed to wear tattered sweats with a loose off the shoulder shirt yet look so breath-taking was beyond him. Her dark brown hair was in a tangled mess sitting atop her head. Small wisps of her hair framed her face, her nose twitching adorably as it tickled her skin.
He saw how her seat was adjusted closer to the wheel, the sun visor unable to do its job properly. This resulted in Johanna wearing sunglasses. Aaron chuckled to himself, the thought of Johanna being frustrated with the sun visor, rays of light shining on her smokey gray eyes. Aaron was slightly disappointed. The sunglasses blocked his view of her eyes, especially the way it crinkles every time he says a bad joke. Johanna glanced towards Aaron under the tinted lenses. Even through the dark barrier, his eyes managed to stand out. Catching her, the corner of lips lifted into a cocky smirk gracing his stubbed face. Johanna blushed.
Breaking the silence, Aaron spoke up. "So ummm, big fan of music huh?" He coughed awkwardly.
Glancing at him, "What makes you think that?" Aaron lifted the thick album raising his eyebrow, as if proving his point. Johanna smiled shyly. "I have a habit of buying the CD's. I love all kinds of music. The way can relate to song no matter what situation is incredible."
"Do you bring this everywhere?"
"I like to keep them with me, even if it's not in my own car."
He flipped through the album, "The Fray, One Direction, Disney Select Songs, My Chemical Romance, Blink 182. I must say Ms. Price, your taste in music is quite...unique." Aaron skipped towards the back. All black CD's stuck out under the flap with white lettering. He put in the last disc, curious as to what's on it.
I didn't know today would be our last
Or that I'd have to say goodbye to you so fast
I'm so numb, I can't feel anymore
Prayin' you'd just walk back through that door
And tell me that I was only dreamin"
