Okay, let me clear something. Not a lot of people believe in the Chinese Zodiac, I mean there's plenty of books, and shows, and movies, but no one really takes it seriously, I mean sure there are many types of Zodiacs, but we're focused on one wheel, the Chinese animal Zodiac Wheel.
If you're new to this type of stuff, please, let me fill you in. The Chinese animal Zodiac revolves around the 12 animals, but one animal is always let out.
Let me just state right now that this story is not about them, this story is about their kids, yup, the Chinese Zodiac is real, whoo hoo shoot some party horns, go crazy, whatever you mortals do.
Anyway, my name is Echo, Echo Māo, I'm a twelve year old kid living out my days in a classroom in sixth grade, my best friend, Ester Shǔ.
Me and Ester were eating outside, since we were the "outsiders," no one wanted to be friends with us.
Everyday was normal, my life was...okay, I mean, it was great, but when your mom is trying everything in her power to make sure you have a good life, it kinda haunts you.
Now I had never met my dad, he never came home for dinner every night, yeah, a winner.
My mom, Kat Māo, told me a little about my dad, but not that much, she said that he was handsome, and had a wicked sense of humor, she seemed happy when she thought of him, she would rank all night if she could, just talking about my dad.
Back to this, I was walking to school and I was pulled aside and knocked out.
I had woken up in a strange place two people were look down at me, one of them had...blue whiskers?! And the other had yellow bunny ears?! 'I must be dreaming' I thought. My vision did clear and I could see that they were both girls, 'good', but the bad news was that they still had the whiskers and ears, 'Okay, I'm losing it'
"I told you she was alive! You owe me 10 bucks Tama!" She was looking at the other girl, Tama, with a cocky grin.
"Ugh, fine." Tama searched through her jacket till she found a ten dollar bill and handed it to the girl.
I decided to finally ask what was going on here.
"Um, hey," The girls turned their attention to me "Where am I?"
The girl with the bunny ears perked up "Oh! Your at Camp Hou Yi! I'm Ariana and this is Tama." She pointed towards Tama.
"But what about the ears you have?" I questioned Ariana, this time, Tama answered.
"Well you know the Chinese animal Zodiac right?" She paused waiting for an answer, but i said nothing. "Quiet much? Anyway, we are the children of the wheel, we are known as 'The Halflings,' like, I'm the daughter of the dragon! And Mrs. Vegetarian is the daughter of the bunny."
"Rabbit." She corrected.
"Whatever."
"Wait so you're saying, I'm a Halfling?"
Both girls nodded.
Another girl walked in the room, she wore a baggy orange jacket that looked like a tiger, a pair of ears sprouted from her head.
"Ariana!" The girl said very quietly "Mrs. Hû needs you."
Ariana looked at the girl "Taylor! I thought I told you to call your dad 'dad' like a normal kid!"
"We're not normal." Taylor said.
"Can I guess?" I had said.
Taylor looked at me confused, "Guess what?"
"Who your parent is, your the tiger, i can tell by your jacket."
"Oh!" She looked away "Yeah, my dad is the tiger."
As soon as the words escaped her mouth, a loud voice broke her quietness "ARIANA, WHERE IS THE REPORT ON THE NEW GIRL?!?"
"Coming!" Ariana had yelled, and ran off.
Tama, who I almost forgot was there spoke "Well, on that note, welcome to Camp Hou Yi, you can stay Dà fángzi for now until we find out who you mom or dad is."
"My dad."
Tama smiled "Oh well, I hope you enjoy it here, First Year."
And on that awful nickname, Taylor smiled at me and left the room, followed by Tama.
I didn't know why, but i knew i was gonna like it here.
Holo everyone, so this is a new book because my friend won't leave me alone about it (pleas send help, im being held hostage in a group chat) so here ya go, I will try to update some of my books but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
