"Okay, so why can't you go to the doctors?" Lizzie, asking for the millionth time, started to sound annoyed.
"I just can't. I'm not supposed to. Is there something wrong with that?" Landon sounded desperate, trying to get Lizzie to stop asking.
"No, I just want to know," she replied, driving into town.
"Well then stop asking!"
"Please, will you two stop fighting?" I pleaded.
"Fine," Lizzie grunted, talking a sharp left turn. "Looks like I better call Adam and tell him about our change of plans," Lizzie sounded disappointed to put off the surprise until some other day. She started dialing and put him on speaker.
"Hello?" asked the same gorgeous voice I talked to the day before.
"Hi Adam, it's Lizzie. You're on speaker by the way, just so you know. Umm, I think we have to cancel tonight's surprise for Heather."
"What?!? Why?" he sounded sad and disappointed.
"Something happened when we were driving to Heather's dance class."
"What happened? Is she okay?" he started sounding worried.
"Don't worry, she's fine. We just ran into someone who needed our help."
"Oh," his moment of panic ended and he sounded more disappointed for having to put his surprise for me on hold.
"Yeah," Lizzie said quietly. "Well, we have to go. I'll talk to you later."
"Okay, bye."
"Bye," Lizzie said and hung up. "Now to get you to a doctor." She said to Landon. I looked over to see how he was doing only to jump back as I saw his face go unnaturally pale.
"But I can't go to the doctor's," he whined.
"Lizzie," I started, "maybe we shouldn't take him to the doctor."
"What?!?" Lizzie looked at me as if I was insane while Landon looked relieved.
"Maybe he's telling the truth. Maybe he's not supposed to visit the doctor." Lizzie didn't look like she believed me.
"Oh come on, what human doesn't go to the doctors!" Then she turned to look at him and as if finally noticing his fangs, she seemed to rethink it and turned back to the road. "Ok, fine. We won't take him to the doctor's." Landon let out a huge sigh of relief and the color of his face came back.
"Where are we going to take him then?" I asked.
"I don't know," Lizzie whispered.
"I do," Landon interrupted. "Take me to the forest at the end of town. My house is there. I'll be safe there."
"Safe? Safe from what?" I asked.
"Safe from what was chasing me," and with that, the car went quiet and we continued our drive to the forest at the end of town.
