Chapter 21 - Anticipations

AUTHOR'S NOTE: I am so sorry for the late update, everyone. I was planning on updating on Sunday morning, but I needed to leave very early for something and when I got back my internet was down until literally just now! Oh well, it's a price you pay when you live in a forest ;)

Anyway, I hope the wait was worth it. Longer chapter to make up for late update!

Previously on Her Safe Haven: Rohan avoided Winter for one-and-a-half month after he realised that he was attracted to her. After Dr Switzgerald told him to make up with Winter because she was good for him, Rohan and Winter talked and settled their problems, after which he promised not to avoid her again. He then texted her his thanks and that he'll see her on "Monday".

Spring holiday came faster than expected, and the Spring Break Exchange Programme that the Lakeside Student Council was planning turned out to be a two-weeks visit to Dews Private High School in response to their invitation to participate in their Spring Sports Festival.

Don't get her wrong, Winter was pleasantly surprised when she found out that she had been chosen as one of the guests for the programme to go to Dews Town, yet at the same time she was very confused because one, she did not join in the planning of this event and hence did not know what was going on nor what they were supposed to do (heck, she didn't even know that Spring break was to begin that coming Monday!); and two, this was an exchange programme for a sports festival.

Inside the minibus that had been hired by Lakeside High to take the councillors to Dews Town that Monday morning, she observed the fellow council members around her incredulously.

There were Seth and Jonah, permanent participants of any exchange programmes, but are starting players of the Football Team and hence it made sense for them to come; then there was Riley, Captain of the Karate Club; Dean, National Track and Field champion; Rose (who despite not being sporty was the Vice President of the Student Council so she didn't count); and then there was Winter.

Sure, Winter was not really that horrible at sports. In fact, she had been told that she could handle ball games — basketball, volleyball, nothing difficult — quite okay. But other than that, she hated running with all her might, and she doubted that as the secretary of the student council her service would be required in a sports event.

She spent the majority of the evening of the previous day in panic of packing after she received a visit from Riley, who initially came over to hang out with her but ended up screaming at her after she saw that Winter hadn't prepared anything for the event.

Now, Winter was used to the somewhat chaotic running of the Lakeside Student Council and was hence not surprised at the sudden (or lack of) notice of her participation in the Spring Break Exchange Programme, but at the same time a little bit displeased. Seth — the one in charge of choosing the participants for the programme — had come over to her house on Saturday, but failed to mention any of this to her. He had talked to her on that day, so why did he not bring this up? Surely it was impossible for Seth with his striking high IQ to forget such an important matter.

She got the gist of his reason for not telling her in advance when he jumped in fright upon seeing her that Monday morning, trying to reason in a tangled mess of an attempt at an explanation: "Well, you see, funny I didn't mention this on Saturday because, hehe... how do I begin? I mean — ow! No, don't hit me, let me explain! — You and Rohan haven't talked in months and you've been more pissy than usual because of it so I thought that maybe you being in Dews Town is good so that you can have a chance to settle your problems and no, no, wait! You're right, okay, it's ridiculous what I did and I should've asked or at least told you first and— noI'msorrypleasestophittingme!"
